Agreed! I’m glad I got to see it with you. 😉 It’s a shame that something without Disney backing or some hokey has been star can’t succeed even with such a great story and cast.

This is a sad thing to read and a testament to what is happening to Broadway

I just had this discussion with a friend of mine who is a composer… I don’t think that the small shows are dying for example: “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder” won the Tony for Best show last year and it is a tiny ensemble show… However… that said, I think that these shows are no longer coming out of New York. Being in San Diego, many of the shows are being workshopped and premiering here at the La Jolla Playhouse, or at the The Old Globe and then making their way to Broadway…. I think you have to look at the pre Andrew Lloyd Weber days to really get a proper comparison for how long a show should run to be considered successful because before the era of Phantom and Cats we had shorter runs, more diversity and not this blockbuster mentality. I think we’ve entered a weird new era which is a combo of both – the blockbuster Wicked’s (which are full of touring shows) and the other smaller shows that run for shorter periods BUT are critically acclaimed… my 2. 😉
