Italian model Pietro Boselli has built a massive following across social media by sharing workout tips, fashion campaigns, and an endless stream of thirst traps. He’s partnered with brands like Tommy Hilfiger, posed for the cover of GQ Italia, and attracted a large fan base among gay men for, well, obvious reasons.
He’s been featured on Queerty a few (dozen) times over the years, as well as nearly every gay lifestyle publication, and counts among his Twitter followers drag queens, queer entertainers and major Pride organizations. Speaking to Attitude in 2016, he even said his involvement in the fashion industry has helped him “to become more involved in the gay community.”
“For me, that’s been huge in terms of evolving as a person, who I am, understanding different viewpoints,” he said.
But is the admiration shown by queer fans really reciprocated? A dive into his recent Twitter activity suggests not.

Scrolling through the accounts he follows, several names raise eyebrows — there’s Fox News hosts Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson, and other outspoken conservatives like Candace Owens, Caitlyn Jenner, Ben Shapiro and Peter Thiel.
Of course, following someone’s feed and agreeing with their politics don’t necessarily go hand-in-hand, but a deeper dive into individual tweets Boselli has ‘liked’ begin to paint a picture.

Is this what Boselli meant when he said he was “evolving” and “understanding different viewpoints”? Perhaps his exposure to gay people in the fashion industry did help him to evolve his views a bit, but it appears he has a long journey ahead if he really wants to understand the issues LGBTQ people face.

The man has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, specializing in Mathematical Modelling and Analysis. Yes, not just an undergraduate degree but a PhD. According to a friend (former model, has a Masters), he is the only upper tier professional fashion model with a PhD. Ever. And we’re not talking about a degree in the Humanities or Business, but STEM. While some models finish their education after their modeling career is done, he did both concurrently. Furthermore, most cases of gender dysphoria, if left alone, will simply resolve during puberty. A very small percentage of these cases, mostly men, go on to become homosexuals. An even smaller percentage become transgender individuals. Nowadays it’s mostly teenage girls that are claiming to suffer from gender dysphoria, who then come out as “non-binary” as young adults. None of this fits the clinical description of transsexuality or gender dysphoria.

No one in Europe has any problem whatsoever with transsexuals – my own boss is a trans woman. At the same time no one would be stupid enough to award a trans-woman “woman of the year”! Nor would European societies tolerate indulging trans activists in their wet-dreams demands to be called the pronoun of their choice. If you’re trans, all glory to you, but you don’t have the right to force others to change their language. That’s the difference between being “progressive” and being “woke”.

I follow Shapiro both on FB and Twitter and even liked some of his posts. I try to understand where he is coming from and even stated my disagreement. He never attacked me or threatened my existence in anyway. Death threats come from our side unfortunately. We’ve become whiny sniveling twits. And guess what it hasn’t changed a thing. Whines or death threats or infantile attacks on character hasn’t changed their views. They’re still going and the community still whining. Whaaa the cute math teacher liked a Tucker Carlson tweet, well we’re not going to like them any more. Whaa. Grow up.

Gay men are definitely men because some problematic straight man flashes a pretty smile and all is forgiven. Approximately 10-15% of the LGBT community in the US does not vote Democratic, or considers themselves conservatives. Your second statement strongly implies that you are, in fact, another heterosexual here to spread that distaste and ignorance so prevalent on the right. So your opinion in this case is meaningless.

Boselli’s apparent ‘likes’ on the Twitter account bearing his name seem rational. I would have ‘liked’ similar posts, so naturally I admire whoever is managing his account. If it’s him, then that’s another reason to take an interest in his activities. I am a bit amused by the melodramatic disdain displayed by the article and many of the comments because Boselli might share the views of many that transgender politics on the left in the US seems extreme. Something quite odd is happening in the US currently. In the meantime, Boselli’s appeal continues unabated.
