PHOTOS: On November 29 Splash played host to the New York Gay Football League’s eighth annual bachelor auction, where the highest bidders scored dates with the eligible gents and proceeds went to the storm-devastated Ali Forney Center.

I hate to write this, but I always feel uncomfortable seeing black people auctioned off to white people. That said, I’d pay $100 just to lick that guys abs.
Fitz
@Mr. Enemabag Jones: I always cringe at that too, and even more so at our culture’s obsession with slave/master shit, and the obvious implications across race-lines. But my beautiful brown husband, of like 200 years, reminds me to lighten up and remember that it’s consensual and at-worst the selling of a date, not a person.
Paul-Michael
@Mr. Enemabag Jones: AGREED.
pscheck2
Excuse me! But aren’t most of these auctioned dudes, white? I think it is about time you dig yourselves out of the past and enjoy the present! (Besides, there would be a few nasty comments, from others, for not having at least one of color on the auction block!)
DirtyOleMan
Perhaps in the 1950’s that comment by Enema would have been appropriate, but then again Mr WashBoard abs would not have been standing there in the 1950’s because he would have not been invited.
As I was slobbering over his picture, that was the last thing that came to mind.

@pscheck2: So to point out the lack of diversity is a “nasty comment”?
What a jerk. White privilege. Become informed & understanding of it.

I’ll take one vanilla and one chocolate.

i wish i knew about the event. i would have spent some serious $ for a date with any of them

@Mr. Enemabag Jones:
We don’t see the audience, he could have very well gone to another black person. š

Nice to see P.C. still equals IC ..(intelligence challenged!!)….

Ya know, crap like the slave/auction comments exist only in the minds of people who just CAN’T LET SHIT GO. That whole idiot scenario that eminemenema brought up never entered my head, and wouldn’t. Stop dwelling, move on, LET IT GO. As long as people have to continue to perpetuate the bad past of slavery and racism, it will never become a true thing OF THE PAST.
As for the men participating in this event – guy in the first two pictures, oh HELL YEAH, GIMME SOME OF THAT! TWICE!
Joetx
@Brett: Slavery in the U.S. is in the past.
The effects of slavery & racism are not.
Good grief, gay guys are just as ignorant as straight guys.
BritAus
I wanna know if any of them put out …
Kasnar
Truthfully, as a red blooded African-American man, the specter of slavery didn’t enter my mind — not until I read the comments. My initial thought was ‘I wonder how much the guy in suspenders went for?’ and how I wouldn’t have minded being there with a fat wad of Benjamins with his name on them. Yes, it’s a meat market but we’re only men after all.

Wish there was a like button for your comment š

I’m black and the guy in the first pic? ooh lawdy jeebus be! I’d thrown down *MANY* benjamins for him!
#broomhildafaints why did I *NEVER* find guys like him and ALL of the guys in these pics when I was living in NYC?
I really must not have been socializing in the right places…

@Mr. Enemabag Jones: It’s not like they’re checking his teeth. Jesus. LOL

Slavery has been around since the beginning of recorded history. “Our” slavery is just it’s most recent form. In this context, black slavery didn’t have even come into my mind till it was mentioned in the comments. But I realize that’s probably just because I’m white.
