Priest Fired For Coming Out Says Church Is Making Lives Of Gay Catholics “Hell”

Krzysztof Charamsa, a 44-year-old former senior Vatican priest who was defrocked and fired the day after he came out, has blasted the Catholic Church in an open — and openly furious — letter to Pope Francis.

In the letter, he claims the Church makes the lives of millions of gay Catholics “a hell,” and says the clergy is “full of homosexuals.”

He accuses the church of “persecuting” gay Catholics and causing “immeasurable suffering” to them and their families.

Charamsa claims that after “a long and tormented period of discernment and prayer,” he decided to “publicly reject the violence of the Church towards homosexual, lesbian, bisexual, transsexual and intersexual people”.

He also says the Roman Catholic clergy is often “frequently violently homophobic,” and implores “all gay cardinals, gay bishops and gay priests [to] have the courage to abandon this insensitive, unfair and brutal Church.”

He claims he can no longer be silent about the “homophobic hate of the Church, the exclusion, the marginalization and the stigmatization of people like me”, whose “human rights are denied” by the Church.

Later, Charamsa writes that Pope Bendict’s proclamation that homosexuality was “a strong tendency ordered toward an intrinsic moral evil” was, in itself, “diabolical.”

LGBTQ Catholics, he says, have a right to a happy family life “even if the Church doesn’t want to bless it.”

Pope Francis has yet to respond to the letter.

Why not they invented hell so why not share it with all. Fucking Catholics.

i was raised in the united church of canada. MANY of our members are former-Catholics who could no longer stomach the hypocritical piety and bigotry of the RCC.

you know, you can find a non-bigoted faith outlet if you actually want one…

and you can all stop f***ing tithing to the RCC. make them go broke, and they’ll consider changing their stances. it’s a BUSINESS. and it operates as BUSINESS.

He is not defrocked until the Vatican returns him to the lay state. Right now he may not present himself as a priest nor celebrate sacraments – but he remains a priest!

I mean really… would you remain celibate if you looked like that?

  • Xzamilio

    All jokes aside, fuck religion.

The Catholic church as an institution is as corrupt and criminal as the mafia, yet the leadership therein insists on asserting a moral superiority over those they deem sinful. Bitches in glass section 8 houses…

I got an idea self respecting glbt leave these groups that loathe a part of you.

    @AtticusBennett:

…because they all had fathers that hated them and they came from shitty families.

Times are changing. My mother’s side was Catholic, of 9 first cousins on that side not one is a practicing Catholic today. And we’re all older, 60+. Most younger people have no interest in organized religion at all. In 20-30 years time Rome is going to be screwed in the West. And it will serve the silly bastards right.

I have read Church documents from hundreds of years ago and the intelligence and nuances of understanding there is astonishing. I cannot fathom how a church that admits one has no control over one’s (same sex) orientation, that homosexual persons have sacred value and worth, then has a pope who says “homosexuality tends toward instrinisic evil” is beyond me.

Fixing the policies and theology of the Catholic church would show that Pope Francis is as good and righteous as he appears to be. Actions speak louder than words and the Catholic church needs a whole lot of action.

@Alistair Wiseman: LOL! I know, right. History has been made. Atticus actually posted a comment without blaming things on “daddy issues”. I’ll sleep well tonight.

On a serious note, enough with this jerk priest already. I’m not even Catholic but I can see why he’d be fired. He broke the rules of the Church and intentionally tried to embarrass the Pope by making his announcement at the time he did. WTF did he expect? Idiot. What gay man would want to be a priest in the first place?!

  • Xzamilio

@aliengod: Probably the same type that would want to be Republicans… but I guess those types have their reasons for being a part of a movement that has always used them as a platform for hate… RIGHT???

  • RobvR

This priest is just a hypocrite. He served the church for years, but now that the same church doesn’t want him anymore (he should have said he is a pedophile, than he would only be moved to the other side of the country) he starts blaming them. If you don’t like the rules of the organisation don’t join them. Simple as that.

  • Saint Law

@aliengod: Yeah, you said that already. In fact you said that already already.

    “On a serious note”

    Bitch, please.

This guy needs to shut the hell up. He is playing the victim card. He knew what being a Priest entailed. Didn’t like it? You should have chosen a regular career where you are free to date/marry whomever you want. He was not “defrocked” over coming out, it was because he took an oath of celibacy and broke up. Then he spitefully comes out with his partner and accuses the Church of firing him over being gay… Pfft. If he had done the same thing with a woman, he would’ve been defrocked.

I went to catholic high school. Once heard a nun teacher tell the class that anal sex wasn’t right because you can’t look at your partner in the face while you are doing it. That’s a true story
