Gap is continuing its trend of inclusive advertising with a new holiday ad featuring gay crooner Rufus Wainwright and hubby Jörn Weisbrodt posing behind the blurb “Love Comes In Every Shade.”
Shade, as we all know, comes from reading—and you can tell the boys are reading each other for filth with their eyes here. Jörn’s are saying, “You’re such a fat slut, after sex you smoke hams.” Ru, meanwhile, is telepathically broadcasting “You’re nothing but an overgrown orangutang!”
For real, though, the “every shade” bit is actually Gap’s holiday-season slogan, with Rufus and Jörn representing “Married Love.”
“Their personal relationships help remind us that every family is unique and often goes beyond just those we’re related to,” says Gap CMO Seth Farbman of the couples in the ads. “It also includes the people we share our lives and deepest passions with. This campaign celebrates these diverse, optimistic views on family and the many forms love can take.”
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Still, we’d love to think the tagline was a little wink to the gays. For more on shade, children, listen to the late great Dorien Corey spell it out.

@fagburn: Probably, and I don’t mind. It is obvious before you click on the article.
