RuPaul Joins the Fight Against Facebook's Real Name Policy

RuPaul NewNowNext Awards Out Of Drag

RuPaul  has joined the fight in opposing Facebook’s recent crackdown on its real name policy, which has heavily been affecting the drag queen community.

“In showbiz, there’s no such thing as bad publicity as long as they spell your name right,” RuPaul told The Hollywood Reporter. “But it’s bad policy when Facebook strips the rights of creative individuals who have blossomed into something even more fabulous than the name their mama gave them.”

If you’re also opposed to the real name policy, you can sign the 32,000 strong (and growing) petition on Change.org, which is fighting to allow performers to use their stage names on Facebook.

There is another meeting scheduled with the group drag queens who are heading this cause and official of Facebook, scheduled for this upcoming Monday (Sept. 29). Check back soon for updates on the outcomes of this meeting.
