Surprise! “The Bachelor” Thinks Gays Are “Perverted,” Doesn’t Want To See A “Gay Version” Of His Show

bachelor_juan_pablo_galavisIn today’s installment of Ugly Heterosexual Men Having Unwarranted Opinions About the Gay Community, the current star of ABC’s hit reality show The Bachelor tells TV Page that a gay version of the show would be a terrible idea because gay people are “perverted.” Are you shocked?

The idea of a “gay Bachelor” has been a talking point for contestants of this franchise for some time now. When asked if he thought a gay or bisexual version of the show would be a “good idea,” Juan Pablo Galavis said “No… I respect [gay people] but, honestly, I don’t think it’s a good example for kids…”

You know, because one man dating, making out with, and having sex with 20+ women he just met on national television sets a much better example for children.

Galavis—a vision of heterosexuality who wears decorative purple socks and competes in pageants—thinks a gay Bachelor would be “too hard to watch”:

“Obviously people have their husband and wife and kids and that is how we are brought up. Now there is fathers having kids and all that, and it is hard for me to understand that too in the sense of a household having peoples… Two parents sleeping in the same bed and the kid going into bed… It is confusing in a sense.”

Plus, if he’s not mistaken, gay people are kinda perverted and stuff:

“There’s this thing about gay people… it seems to me, and I don’t know if I’m mistaken or not… but they’re more ‘pervert’ in a sense. And to me the show would be too strong… too hard to watch.”

Careful, ladies! Don’t all tackle this charmer at once!

A competent, working grasp of the English language would go a long way towards establishing credibility. Euro, Latino, Macho Moron…

  • MikeE

    “I respect you. I think you’re a perv, but I respect you.”

wow, talk about being very unclear on the concept.

  • robirob

And that guy’s opinion should matter, because …?

He’s on some reality TV show where some fame hungry skanks try to woo this loser!

  • davincibarnette

Let’s put it this way. I don’t want to see a Gay Bachelor,a black Bachelor, even this Latino Bachelor,(btw, notice they found a Latino looking as much like a Malibu Ken Doll as possible ?)I don;t really want to see my people (Gay Men/Black Men/Black Women) acting the way these people do on National TV. It’s a stupid ass show. This is one argument I don’t care to win. Let the hetero’s have this one!!

  • TheNewEnergyDude

    We’ll, at least he’s pretty.

  • KDub

He may be homophobic, but we all know he’s far from ugly. I don’t agree with his reasoning, but I don’t think a gay bachelor would make much sense for ABC either. Maybe Logo but not ABC. The LGBT community is only 4 percent of the country, and even a lot of us wouldn’t be interested in watching it. It just wouldn’t make sense for ABC.

  • chaddyboy6

well from the way we are portrayed most of the time I can see his point. We are commonly portrayed as only seeking the next hook up or thrill. As shallow (and only caring about gay marriage etc and ignoring the horrendous economy is shallow) and only caring about physical appearance.

  • Louis

Now I just need to know what every other dimwit attention whore reality star thinks about my sexuality and my lifes complete!

  • Louis

@chaddyboy6: There is never any point when it comes too homophobia and archaic mindsets like this guy has.

  • TinaTheGreat

Show me a homophobe with a pretty face, and I’ll show you a group of (stupid) gays who are ready to defend/understand him.

  • Kieran

Countdown for this dumb bitch to make her half-assed apology……3,2,1

  • DShucking

But it’s okay because it sounded real sexy in his latin accent when he said it.

  • tjr101

Sounds like he’s auditioning for his next gig on Fox News, we all know they like dimwit pretty faces with reality show experience.

  • Richjr42

Have we already forgotten that we had “Boy Meets Boy”? And we know how that nightmare show turned out. Do we really need “a Boy Meets Boy 2”?

This jackass, like the BMB twat,is gonna be a faded memory before long.

  • sfbeast

The really sad part is that there is a show ‘The Bachelor’, and that there are people who watch it.

  • ouragannyc

Very disappointed. I watched the first episode, thought it was cool.
He could have stopped to the “don’t agree but respect” part.
    The “perverted” part so unnecessary.

  • Wingfield

I’m sure he’ll come out and say… “So sorry my English is really bad… I love everybody”. However I don’t think a gay bachelor would work. Just imagine 25 hot single gay guys living in a house. You’d no doubt have hooking up and contestants who were more interested in each other than the bachelor.

  • joebatch

@robirob: But he is a paragon of virtue because he’s on the t v trying to get a date (which in itself is suspect) he could not get one otherwise because most decent self–respecting women would not have him so he deals with skanks who have no such moral hang-ups. We should all bow to his wisdom on such matters.

  • ouragannyc

The whole thing could be a publicity stunt to boost the ratings. Now, conservatives and their moms are gonna watch the show and defend their new hero. It’s gonna be “Duck Dynasty” part II,this time, Republicans tellig hispanics they share the same social values…

  • KittyLitter

    Never have. Never will.

Although a “gay” version would never work. Bravo tried this and well….what’s to stop the guys/girls from just going after each other. This also happened in a some dating show on mtv…The guys/girls just dumped the lead and got together with another contestant.

  • NotStr8Acting

@ouragannyc: except for the fact that duck dynasty ratings were 28% DOWN in viewership and repeat episodes of the premiere are also very low. The vocal minority is just that, vocal…but a minority.

  • jwrappaport

I think he and I must have radically different definitions of perversity. For example, I think it’s perverse to marry a person who’s been selected for you from a pool of total strangers by corporate focus groups.

  • CCTR

With marriage equality in many states and the popularity of quasi reality shows and apps like jacked and grindr, why not a gay Bachelor or gay dating show …it is about time

  • mikesan

So they find the whitest Latino north of the 30th parallel, try to brand him as their first POC bachelor, and he’s a first class bigot… *clap*clap*clap*

  • ouragannyc

    @jwrappaport: AMEN!!!

  • Aromaeus

@mikesan: I’m happy I’m not the only one to see that.

  • jimbryant

I wouldn’t be surprised if Juan Galavis is bisexual. Most men are bisexual but choose to go down the straight path because they don’t want to engage in what is considered to be sinful activity.

These men also don’t want to fall victim to the “gay trap”, a trap which involves a lifestyle of endless nothings in bars and sex clubs where promiscuity is highly concentrated and life-threatening STD’s are spread.

Juan is typical of MANY men who see “gay” as a form of illness-spreading perversion. It’s a tragic perception but one that is partly brought about by the heavy marketing of promiscuity on the gay male social scene. The gay male social scene must take some of the blame for this perception.

  • davincibarnette

    @mikesan: Exactly!

  • Cagnazzo82

Being gay is perverted and might confuse children. But dating 20 or 30 women on TV at the same time, that’s perfectly normal. And sets a good example for whatever kids may be watching?

Why, because I like women, so that makes my perversion perfectly natural!

    /Euro Moron

  • jimbryant

Ha, good point. Don’t forget the perversion of the women in the show too. Women who put themselves up for selection by a man are revolting creatures. These women have no self-respect or class.

Don’t let women off the hook here.

  • tardis

This is ignorance in the flesh. This is what living in a box looks like. Lucky for him he was born straight. Pft, what the hell does he know?

And…why do they always drag children into the argument? It’s like a buzzword at this point. I mean…some kids are gay and know they are…are they perverts too?

  • jimbryant

Both Duck Dynasty and The Bachelor are owned by Disney. Boycott Disney. Disney stinks. Disney supports homophobia.

  • jimbryant

Actually, male homosexuality exists in about 90% of men. There might only be 4% of men who are EXCLUSIVELY oriented to men but the vast majority of men are bisexual in various proportions.

  • Robert562

Ok so he thinks being gay is Perverted , but having your tongue down 25 different bimbo’s throats on some tv show looking for a wife is not :) yeah that really makes alot of sence ..Not !!

  • ouragannyc

@Wingfield: Better yet, he will say how hurt he is that people say he’s a homophobe. After all, he does love everybody.

  • Drew2U

…HILARIOUS. He’s a dead beat dad who had his wages garnished in FL for failing to pay child support. Do I really care AT ALL what this guy thinks?

  • Damianvargas

Out one side of the mouth- complete outrage over being called pervs
Out the other side of the mouth – “oooh girl, these spy shots of guys riding the subway who have no clue they are being photographed much less given permission to post the pics on the web r hawt!”

  • TheMarc

As expected, there are yet again those among us that are willing to excuse all in favor of “hotness.” Disgusting. Anyone willing to tolerate hate, gross generalizations and down right irrational and mean-spirited comments from someone just because that person happens to be, in their opinion, “hot” truly sicken me. Just an FYI…he didn’t say a gay Bachelor season wouldn’t work because of Boy Meets Boy. He said it wouldn’t work because we’re perverts. So your flimsy defense of him is as irrelevant as it is deplorable.

As for Juan, the Bachelor of “color,” he really needs to educate himself. First, learn the definition of hypocrisy. Then, take a look at many gay families that are raising well-adjusted and above normal children in supportive and loving households. And just because his gay friends are, apparently, very promiscuous; that does not mean all gay men are. He should stick to speaking on topics he’s actually well versed on like whoring it up with a harem and sun tan lotion.

  • ppp111

Meh. So some reality star doesn’t like us or thinks we’re perverted. What else is new? Might as well get upset with Elizabeth Hasselback and Sheri Shepard while we’re at it. This dude isn’t worth getting upset over.

  • stanhope

Who but a worthless punk would appear on a show such as this? Somebody bend this jackass over and show him the “world”. I’d do it myself but I like my dick too much to put it in his cuolo.

  • tada-no

I think I understood his “pervert” point. His ESL got him in trouble but I believe that he means if straight guys on the Bachelor are expected to juat make out, gays being gays will notch it up with sluttyness and hypersexualization like we love to do in general. Maybe Pablo heard about Folsom Street Fair from his gay associates and feels that they will turn the show into that with gloryholes behind the scenes. Or just look at DaveyWavey type gay “icons” where the sole theme that attracts guys to watch him is constant snarky sex and body worship topics.

  • Kangol

Irony much? This man is on a show in which women are throwing themselves at him. The show is predicated on “caring about…marriage etc” and “only caring about physical appearance.” Yet he and this awful show get let off the hook.

We should not buy into homophobia, heterosexism and heteronormativity. Gay people are not the problem, homophobia and heterosexism are.

  • MK Ultra

“… Two parents sleeping in the same bed and the kid going into bed… ”
WTF does he mean by this?
I hope that’s not implying what it sounds like…

  • joey.gomez91

I know somethings dont translate well from language to language but the word “pervert” translates directly from Spanish to English sorry dude not buying your BS

  • MilesVorkosigan

French television already had a Gay version of the Bachelor…

  • jimbryant

The thing that annoys me the most is that GLAAD has not vehemently condemned Juan Pablo in the way it vehemently condemned Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty fame. GLAAD are hypocrites.

  • robirob

@jimbryant: I think it has something to do with GLAAD having a ‘good’ relationship with ABC which airs The Bachelor while Duck Dynasty is on the Arts and Entertainment (short: A&E) Channel.

  • guest4ever

I thought homosexuality was all about honesty and tolerance, right?

The man tells the truth about homosexuality… which every homosexual knows is true… and the tolerance goes out the door and the hate comes barging in.

If anything,my friends, the homosexual movement is the epitome of hypocrisy.

  • TinaTheGreat

@guest4ever: No part of your comment is close to a normal definition of “truth.”

Tolerance does not include tolerating outright defamation and name-calling.

  • Louis

Which every homosexual knows is true? That did not make one ounce of sense and its exactly that kind of attitude bigots like this man use too support their asinine narrowminded argument AGAINST us.

  • Atomicrob

And his sexuality is well defined? Anyone prancing around with 20 chicks and smiling all the time with his fake white teeth and purple socks is, well, questionable at best.

  • Atomicrob

Then what are you doing here?

  • NG22

People get so confused about homophobia. They say something offensive about LGBT people, then when people pay attention, they trip over themselves saying how much they love and respect all people. But homophobia is the fear of homosexuality. It is not hatred of homosexuality, the way misogyny means “hatred of women.”

That’s a convoluted way of saying this guy is, quite literally, homophobic. He is confused about homosexuality, and is afraid of it being ‘propagandized’ to children. Perhaps he and President Vladimir Putin should do a cross-promotion marketing event in time for the Olympics.

  • hotshot70

He’s the male version of Sophia Vergata. Loudmouth, broken english, and relies on looks to get away with bad “speeking” skills.
