Republicans React
Some Republicans were even surprised, and a bit disappointed, to find that they loved Obama’s speech.
Will a Trump apologist explain to me why an 18 yo watching the conventions would want to be a Republican? We're giving away a generation
— Tim Miller (@Timodc) July 28, 2016
Text just now from a senior House Republican who gave me permission to tweet this: “We were supposed to make that sort of speech."
— Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) July 28, 2016
I disagree with the President on so much policy and his agenda, but appreciate the hope and optimism in this speech.
— Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) July 28, 2016
I started the evening saying for the first time I thought Trump could win. Then Obama spoke. I’m so angry at my own party right now.

The big risk for HRC is that Michelle, Bill and Barack set the rhetorical bar waaaay up. Her speech will be good…delivery? We'll see.

Great speech. And we made it easy for him.

American exceptionalism and greatness, shining city on hill, founding documents, etc–they're trying to take all our stuff
— Rich Lowry (@RichLowry) July 28, 2016
Still stunned. Feel like I'm in the twilight zone. Obama just defended America & conservative values from attacks by the Republican nominee.

According to Ezra Klein, we should get used to this change in tone, now that Obama’s presidency is winding down.
The bipartisan plaudits for Obama's speech are a preview of the way Republicans will warm to Obama after his presidency

How much more sickening can the media get. Was it really necessary to show blacks having “faith” in a man in the sky more than the person they support? I can not believe blacks are not insulted by these persistent images of their having more faith in something else other than themselves. The crying black woman and crying black gay (I assume) man raising their hands toin “obedience” appears a bit much in my opinion.

The energy in that room must have been palpable. What an intensely different experience with the Democratic Convention. The Democrats shine a bit. The Republicans give themselves away with their mouths, their dim light, and their disdain. Noxious and smug. Exclusive and disrespectful. What beautiful minds gathered under that roof of the Democratic convention. What a fresh view. Fear is in the dust. I’m proud of my party.

President Obama mentions himself 119 times in a speech that was supposed to be Hillary Clinton’s moment in the limelight. Shocking, said no one.

I was FINALLY able to post the above post after I had to re-write it. Just had another one that will not post.
Queerty, supposed lovers of diversity, are consistently censoring posters who don’t tow the liberal groupthink.

Great speech. Great president. Wept throughout.
Don’t get why certain folks think you can’t have faith in, and be inspired by, a leader, yet still not believe in their own personal power and agency. That’s what leaders are for–to inspire. Thanks MLK, Harvey Milk, Gloria Steinem, Stokey Carmichael.
But some folks think the world is an either/or situation. Sad for them.

@Bob LaBlah: Says who? The DNC is not just about the nominee, it’s about party consolidation, empowerment, and political capital. As such Obama’s speech was a democratic moment at the DNC, a passing of the baton, and a very real reckoning of an historic president’s end of term. It made the introduction of Hilary more powerful, elevating her. This was my experience of the event, and many I spoke with. Great moment for many of us. Sorry it wasn’t yours.

@Sansacro:
Do you really think that referring to yourself singularly or collectively 119 times is appropriate for a moment that is not supposed to be all about you?
Unfortunately, this is hardly the first time!
Bob LaBlah
@Sansacro:It’s really too deep to go into but trust me, BOTH sides have made me down right sick with the same ol’ b/s aimed at minorities. Why they don’t demand a change to it I have no idea but that was the case. Did you note how both parties found a fiery black preacher to give a sermon? Courting the black church perhaps just as Trump courts evangelicals who preach the opposite of what the black ministers preach?
Did either show a black family together on stage to show the millions of black couples who are still together as a family? Oh, no. A black businessman perhaps? Think about those images for once and then wonder how do they NOT see what is going on with both sides? Lets just stick with the stereotypes and let that be the order of the day is the clear message from both. At least she had the good sense to keep Jessie and Al at bay, or at least out of prime time.

Look at the desperation among the Log Cabiners. Even conservative pundits and speakers such as Eric Erickson from Red State admitted the speech was good and lamented that the Democratic convention was done better than the Republican.
But the crazy Log Cabiners have to come in and scream about whatever they can because they are terrified to ever admit to anything factual.
Hey Log Cabin, if you keep refusing to admit that the GOP is anti-lgbt that kind of calls out B.S. on your claim that you are going to work within the party to bring acceptance isn’t it?
Alistair Wiseman
@DCguy:
Is everybody you disagree with a “Log Cabiner”?
ErikO
@Alistair Wiseman: LOL well he is a meglomaniac and narcissistic.
Hillary and Obama were bought out by Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates gave as much as $40 million to the Clinton Foundation. These countries have horrible human rights and it’s a crime to be lesbian/gay and bisexual where punishment is death.
Moreover, the level of Arab support for the Clinton Foundation, which occurred during the time Hillary Clinton was a U.S. senator, was seeking the Democratic nomination for president against Barack Obama, and was serving as secretary of state, fuels questions about the reasons for the donations. Were they solely to support the foundation’s causes, or were they designed to curry favor with the ex-president and with a potential future president?
Hillary is a domestic enemy. Vote for Jill Stein in 2016!
Kangol
@Alistair Wiseman: No, but some of these “gay” Republicants fit the bill like pumps on a stunt queen. You hate Democrats and liberals, and kiss the hatefilled tucheses of Republicans. You turn silent when asked to explain why you defend hom0phobes. Got it, girl!
Alistair Wiseman
@Kangol:
I “defend hom0phobes”? Please tell me which ones. I would love to know which hom0phobes I have defended in the past.
By the way, I am still waiting for your examples of the “ugly”, “hateful” and “r@cist” comments from Donald Trump’s convention speech. Fifth request and waiting…..

I cannot stand to listen to another Obama speech about, yes, you guessed it, himself. He is the most undeserving, unqualified, unaccomplished, ungrateful do nothing social worker to ever have the office. I am just thrilled that his signature healthcare pile of manure has his name on it so people can spit on the ground when they hear the word “obamacare”. He wanted it called obamacare and now, so do we. He an suffer the humiliation of that garbage legislation until history finally admits what a piece of sh it it is. And he is.
sapnasabkirani6
Exactly. Some gay guy gets a hardon and suddenly everything about Ryan Lochte becomes an issue important to gays.
Meanwhile, having to decide whether to trust Ryan Lochte or trust the IOC puts a person in quite a bind.
