During Donald Trump‘s scarefest…err, speech, he promised to protect Americans from the attacks we are all personally about to become the victims of when the sky falls on our collective heads, which will happen immediately. That is, unless he is elected to the highest office in the land.

Don’t let the Republican Party’s homophobic and transphobic platform fool you, nor Trump’s own anti-LGBT rhetoric, nor the anti-LGBT actions of his vice presidential pick Mike Pence; a President Trump would protect us all.
Or so he claims.
“As your President, I will do everything in my power to protect our LGBTQ citizens from the violence and oppression of a hateful foreign ideology,” Trump said.
#LGBTQ quickly became a trending hashtag and it was quick to see without looking too far that the vast majority of people weren’t buying it.

I am actually, literally LOLing at Trump attempting to say the LGBTQ acronym out loud for (obvi) the first time. You’re not our ally bro.

I’ll believe the GOP stands with American LGBTQ people when I see them pass the Equality Act through the US House & Senate they control

I’m glad a lot of LGBTQ folks aren’t buying Trump’s comments about “protecting” us. I’ve seen school plays that had better acting than that.

You can claim to be with them all you want, Mr. Trump, but it does not appear as if the feeling is mutual.

“As your President, I will do everything in my power to protect our LGBTQ citizens from the violence and oppression of a hateful foreign ideology,”
When I read that yesterday, my immediate thought was “I’m more afraid of the hateful DOMESTIC ideology.”
How about promising to protect LGBTQ from that? That happens every day…..
Dave Downunder
He says he is going to protect the LGBTQ community from the “hateful foreign ideology” but says nothing about the hateful local ideology being spewed by some. It sounds more like an excuse to hate on muslims than it is to do with protecting gays.
Paco
The radicalized extremist GOP with their anti-LGBT platform is more frightening to me than foreign terrorists. The GOP honestly expected us to be blind to their pandering and not notice how Trump only offers our community protection from “foreign” violence and oppression while they embrace doing it right here at home? Really pathetic.
Most of us don’t suffer from cognitive dissonance.
Masc Pride
This is going to become a problem for Trump. His promises without details of how he’s going to make good on those promises worked well with his mostly non-college-educated base, but will it work in the general?
@Dave Downunder: Exactly. His speech last night showed that he’s well aware of the rampant Islamophobia within the gay community. He’s working it. He could conceivably pick up a lot of gay support.
Hank
he must be desperate to say it, of course it is not serious.
NateOcean
“…hateful foreign ideology…”
It’s not the *foreign* hateful ideologs that I fear.
GayEGO
Yeah right! How is he going to protect us? He never answers with a solution, he probably will protect us by sending all of us to an LGBT prison and claim we are protected from the outside world. If we don’t agree with him he will send us to ISIS who will toss us off of the buildings. :>)
captainburrito
He wants to protect lgbt from muslims, that much is true. So evangelicals can monopolize their bullying of the lgbt community…
Hussain-TheCanadian
It seems to me, the United States is heading towards a One Party system run by the democrats for at least the next 10 years – The Republican party is in shambles, and all sane republicans know it.
Mack
@Hussain-TheCanadian: Take absolutely NOTHING for granted. Come election time, get out the vote-anyone that supports the LGBT, get them to the polls. Otherwise the LGBT will be set back 50 years. You can bet on it!

The idea of Donald Trump protecting us makes me want to go out and buy a gun.
Brian
Trump is not anti-gay at all. Some of these twittering queens need to stop pretending that Trump is anti-gay.
I would say that the tweets put out by some of the twittering queens are far more homophobic than anything the Republicans have said.
Never underestimate the homophobia of a queen.

What do Democrats hate more than gay Republican getting a standing ovation at the Republican National Convention after announcing he is a proud to be a gay Republican?
Nothing.
OzJosh
Trump’s attempt to appear LGBTQ-friendly in his speech was literally back-to-back with this thanks to the evangelical christian community for their support and his promise to enact legislation protecting their right to discriminate based on their religion. It couldn’t be more cynical or more laughable.

“What do Democrats hate more than gay Republican getting a standing ovation at the Republican National Convention after announcing he is a proud to be a gay Republican?”
A wealthy quisling does not arouse our hatred. Just our pity and disbelief. And he is very likely proud to be a republican, and very enamored of his wealth; but in supporting a candidate verbally committed to undoing marriage equality and as cozy as possible with both the “moral” evangelical community and white supremacists he clearly shows himself not proud to be gay. His standing ovation had more to do with allowing the overwhelmingly white anti-gay attendees to feel as if they are kinda-sorta inclusive. If you doubt that you need only look at the republican party platform where LGBT rights are concerned.
Again, out pity and disbelief are aroused for him as they are for you. We’d hate you if your actions oppressed us or if you (like Trump) promised to destroy our advances. But you don’t have the power and are probably more mislead and intellectually dull than actually evil.
We hate hypocrisy, willful ignorance, cynical manipulation of others, baldfaced liars…the things that characterize Trump more than any other candidate (so well evidenced by the pack of lies in his acceptance speech).
He BGB
Another subject he is totally out of touch with and is ignorant about. I suppose Ivanka told him to say it so it would sound good. He could hardly pronounce the 5 letters like he was seeing it for the first time. Like others the foreign part is sounding strange when there is domestic harm coming to us and it is coming from his political husband Pence! And everyone surrounding him in the GOP. Conversion therapy my ass. They need conversion therapy to become compassionate knowledgeable human beings.

Trump promised to pack the courts with antigay judges to restore gay marriage bans.
With friends like Trump, who needs enemies?

@Brian: Trump’s not antigay?
Then explain Mike Pence?
