WATCH: Judith Light Discusses Her Broadway Regimen, Dedication To LGBT Community

We could love Judith Light just for her body of work—from camp classics like Who’s The Boss and Ugly Betty to Tony-caliber stage work like Wit and Lombardi —but her tireless dedication to AIDS activism and the queer community (which goes far beyond the usual lip-service paid by celebrities) has made her one of our most beloved actors.

In the clip above, from a segment on VH1’s Big Morning Buzz Live, the Other Desert Cities star discusses why she’ll always stand by the gays.

    Have always liked her, from her time in “Who’s the Boss” (I thought she was pretty hot, actually, even w/the great head of 80’s hair), to her advocacy today. Thanks for posting, Queerty.

    I had the pleasure of participating in workshops with Ms. Light in school years ago. She’s an incredibly intuitive actress, and an absolutely stellar human being. She has been a passionate and vocal champion and advocate for the LGBT community for decades, and I’m proud to have her as an ally.

    I’ve had the pleasure of working with her and she is the most genuine person on the planet. She told me although she had no children of her own, she felt all LGBT youth were her kids and she wanted to be their advocate. A truly remarkable woman.

    Judith Light’s performance in the movie “Save Me” was brilliant and transcendent.

  • 13Zeroither

    @Michael I’ve heard of that movie Save Me. I so want to watch that. Do you know where can I find it?

  • Michael

    @13Zeroither: Netflix has it available.

    She’s amazing in “Other Desert Cities.” Wonderful woman, wonderful work.

    What I appreciate about Judith Light is that she seems to truly understand what being an ally to LGBTI communities means. Her participation in her activism isn’t mixed into her own monetary benefits. And she doesn’t claim “gays” as some sort of collectible item, which really dehumanizes the community, no matter how humorous the intent is.
