Check out the trailer for Sparkle, the upcoming movie musical starring Whitney Houston and Jordin Sparks. In the film, set in the Motown-era 1960s, musical prodigy Sparkle (the aptly named Sparks) climbs the ladder of fame amid family drama with her single mom ( Houston) and a budding romance with her manager (Derek Luke).

This bears so little resemblance to its source material (the 1976 film) that it should be illegal for them to call this movie Sparkle.

I watched the original the other day and although I’m a big fan of Irene Cara, the original wasn’t all that great. It was good, just not great. I didn’t know En Vogue’s “Giving Him Something He Can Feel” originated from the first Sparkle.
I’m looking forward to seeing this one.
