Gay men need to look out for our HEART HEALTH. Within the last six months several gay men have died young becuase of heart conditions including Michael Jackson, E. Lynn Harris and Stephen Gately.

I send my sympathies to Yu's family and friends.

Quick – it's another reason to raise money:

“The staff and Board of Directors of GLAAD extend our deepest condolences to Spencer Yu’s family,” said GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios. “It is difficult for all of us to lose one of our most upbeat, optimistic Board Members – one who invited new members to the GLAAD family and was a delight to work with.”

To send a check in honor of Spencer, please make it out to GLAAD.

"To send a check in honor of Spencer, please make it out to GLAAD."

that's TERRIBLE!!! All they had to do was leave off the GLAAD. OR if they said Spencer's wishes are that you donate $$ to his favorite org… GLAAD. That might be less obnoxious.

here's a quote from the news article, "According to Barrios, Yu’s surviving partner, Dan Neisen, has asked that donations be made to GLAAD’s Spencer Yu Memorial Fund in lieu of flowers (donations can be made here). A private memorial service is scheduled for Friday in Los Angeles." That's how it should be done.

i read the rumours regarding it was a drug overdoes. And if true, that makes this sadder.

@Fitz: "color me unsurprised, and (frankly) not so sympathetic either" – Someone just died way before his time, asshole. Show some goddam respect. Save your pious fucking value judgements for later.

You're being kind of a dick. No one deserves to die like that – whether he's some rich "A gay" or a homeless person in an alley. It's still sad.

That's so SAAD! Also, many HIV-positive folk have heart conditions due to meds and/or the ravages of HIV and nowadays experience mid-level weight gain but may not be aware because they're lab numbers look good every three months. We also have to ask ourselves, how many young gay people (in their 50s or less) were also diagnosed with another chronic condition? AIDS is still a Gay issue, too!

Fitz isn't an asshole. When are people going to learn? Drugs are illegal for a reason. They kill! Gays need to grow up.

Sorry children, the drugs are illegal for a reason. The looser was taking them knowing that they were illegal, in a venue designed for illegal drug use. And he was a community leader?! Don't mourn him for a fucking second. A looser died doing looser things.

@Fitz

That is a little blunt. You can attack the transgression, but not the person. It's not as if everyone on the planet has not done something they regret, I guess that would make us all losers.

I don't see any report that indicates Yu's incident was drug-related. Has anyone seen one?

I certainly think it's likely that drugs were involved, but I do not think it's okay to Yu deserved to die just because he went on a cruise, and that's what I see Fitz doing here.

Actually, even if he died because of drug use, I think people celebrating his death are evil.

I've just learnt of this great man’s death. I'm deeply sorrowed to see a community tearing at each other over speculation. Let’s celebrate Spencer’s life and mourn the loss. This is neither the platform nor the time for this debate.
Peace and love guys… drop the anger and judgment…

As someone who has first hand knowledge of the drug use of the staff of Atlantis I can tell you the drug use is at epidemic level on these cruises. as much as I would love to think this guy did not participate in this lifestyle I'm afraid he probably did, it doesn't make him a bad person just that it so unfortunate. I've seen so many tragedies on GHB especially when mixed with the rest of the alphebet. My heart and prayers go out to his partner and his family. The FBI and DEA should become involved in this and bring it to an end.

As an undercover agent for a federal agency that I will not devulge at this time, I too have witnessed first hand employee's of Atlantis Events consuming illegal drugs and narcotics on board several US based cruises, in cabins that were being paid for by Atlantis Events, Inc and had Atlantis Staff memmbers using such cabins for sleeping quarters. Your cooperation would be apprediated, please contact the US Attorney Generals office for the Los Angles District- HIDTA Group (High Intestity Drug Trafficing Area) Thank you.
