HRC Pussy Foots Obama Controversy

As gay activists and commentators come out against Barack Obama’s anti-gay friend Donnie McClurkin, Human Rights Campaign has issued what may be the weakest “ultimatum” ever:

The Human Rights Campaign has expressed its strong reservations to Obama over his campaign-sponsored tour that features gospel singer Donnie McClurkin.

The influential organization, representing a powerful Democratic constituency, let Obama’s campaign know that it would issue a public demand if Obama did not immediately cancel the event, said a person who had been briefed on the exchange.

Why tell Obama? Why not just issue the statement and make your point? Unless, of course, they don’t have one.

The Human Rights Campaign became the organisation of choice to receive the grant money that allows its executive director to earn a six figure salary.

I have often mentioned that if all American gays and lesbians, bisexual and transgendered persons and their friends and families and allies gave just one dollar a year…a dollar a year….can you imagine the lobbyists that you could hire?

What is the agenda of this organisation? It is the DLC and Log Cabin agenda of compromise on both principle and accepting outcomes which actually further do violence to equality and justice.

Let’s face it folks! You are given nothing but second tier compromise and told that you need to accept this….it is better than nothing, and your family will get these rights now and nothing else. Then, after you drink the Kool-aid and you are still thirsty for equality, that door is closed for you.

History repeats itself….first Reconstruction and then the Hayes-Tilden compromise of 1877 and then Plessy v Ferguson and Jim Crow in the late 19th and 20th centuries to Brown v Board in 1954 and the Civil Rights Act in 1964-5 and then Loving v Virginia in 1867. That is what the Republican betrayal of blacks cost them, and what the Dixiecrat resurgence gave them. Got it!!!

erratum….1967. 102 years from “second class” to first class. You may die enslaved while your neighbours die equal and free.

They didn’t say issue a statement, they said
“that it would issue a public demand”. No that sound scary!

You know this whole debate is preposterous. Everyone forgets that this campaign is about brining everyone together from different walks of life with different points of view to reach agreements. Hope has always been the message that we can bridge the divide of those that see things from a different perspective. I always thought that my gay brothers and sisters who we call “Family” know the values of that family. As family we treat others as we want to be treated and not reject others as we’ve been rejected. We’ve always stood up for something greater than those who’s message was not full of truth. We always have presented ourselves diginity and respect and we know what tolerance means…or don’t we? So many of my “Family” has talked about this and are ready to bridge this issue and work with those that don’t understand us. We can’t do it by alienating others. We can’t do it with the attitude of, “You’re with us or against us” or “go it alone.”
