Just yesterday, we reported how GOP chairman Reince Priebus told the New Republic that Mike Huckabee should be the party’s point man on same-sex marriage because he’s so “reasonable” on the issue.
“I always tell people: Listen to Governor Mike Huckabee,” said Priebus. “I don’t know anyone that talks about them any better.”
Well, Huck wasn’t gonna let that insult go unchallenged!
In an interview with NewsMax, the former presidential also-ran explains that there ain’t no way he or his Evangelical buddies will ever condone gay marriage. And if the GOP does? Well the faithful will abandon the party, praise Jesus!
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Said Huckabee, a Southern Baptist minister:
They might [support gay marriage]. And if they do, they’re going to lose a large part of their base because evangelicals will take a walk.
And it’s not because there’s an anti-homosexual mood, and nobody’s homophobic that I know of. But many of us, and I consider myself included, base our standards not on the latest Washington Post poll, but on an objective standard, not a subjective standard…
On this issue, I recognize the culture is moving away from the traditional standard, but it’s almost like saying, well, we have a basketball team and nobody on the team can hit the goal that’s 10 feet off the floor so we’re going to lower the goal down to six feet and that way everybody can slam dunk the ball.
Yep, sounds reasonable and well-spoken to us!
We’ve always wondered though, where would these ticked-off evangelicals go? Starting a third party is a losing proposition (even the Tea Party has only been able to influence the GOP, not rival it), and if they stay home, gays will reap even bigger benefits from a Democratic Congress.
So let’s cut the bull, Mike—you are yours aren’t going anywhere.

Good. Just keep walking.

Hey now. If they *want* to stay home and sit out elections, don’t try to stop them!

@hyhybt: To be fair, I don’t think many evangelical practitioners have long left. Pat is existing purely on hate at this point as his heart died right around the time he discovered christianity, like it does in all of these people.

I’m positive that bigots left when (gasp) blacks were allowed to marry whites, life rolls on… buh-bye. Maybe this will give him the much needed time to focus on his psychopathic spawn who tortures stray dogs. The prosecutor who filed the charges against huckabee’s spawn soon lost his job. That tells us hucka-hasbeen’s sense of right and wrong. Good riddance, creepy man who reared a cruel son and then fired the prosecutor who spoke out about it. Good riddance!

Good riddance to them, if they do.

What Huckabigot is saying is the ancient bigots will close their checkbooks.
This scares the hell out of the greedy GOP.
GOP = Greedy Old Plutocrats.

Let us hope that when they walk, they ALL line up in a single line and Nazi-goose-step out the door. That way they will kick each other dead center in their asses as they leave.

These aren’t religious people. Just liars and bigots finding an excuse for their bigotry.
Why didn’t Huckabee push to outlaw divorce when he was governor? Jesus himself spoke out against divorce yet never said a word about homosexuality. Yet somehow divorce is fine for people like Huckabee but gays are somehow to be attacked because of their religion.
They are simply bigots, they aren’t religious because they are fine with ignoring Christ’s words when they are inconvenient.
Oh and lastly…if they leave the party they will go where exactly?
Charlie in Charge
@Cam: I was wondering where they would go as well. In a two party system they don’t have many options. A part of me is actually a little worried about the softening image of the Republican party because I like people who want to vote for marriage equality to vote for things like environmental protections.

May the evangelicals walk extend 20 feet beyond the cliff! Bon voyage! Land softly and retry- never give up!
Dakotahgeo
evan@Dakotahgeo: evangelicals’ * or evilangelicals’, possibly.
randalaw
@Bob LaBlah: They’d probably enjoy that!
randalaw
I hope he’s right. That would be the best news the GOP has received since Lincoln joined!
