‘Idaho Statesman’ Defends Craig Article

People have criticized the Idaho Statesman newspaper and veteran reporter Dan Popkey for running an incomplete, yet eye-opening, investigation on Larry Craig.

Popkey had been investigating Craig’s sexuality for months, but hadn’t found conclusive evidence. Craig’s guilty plea became that evidence, so the paper ran the story. Some say the Statesman made the wrong decision. Editor Vicki Gowler disagrees:

With one person saying he had gay sex, we held off, which was the high road. It was not enough. But this allowed us to layout a much richer story on Craig after the arrest. Even now, we are going to get lots of criticism about running the story at all.

Yeah, well, fuck those haters, we think you’re fab.
