James Bond Star Ben Whishaw Says There Was A Lot Of Tension Around His Decision To Come Out Publicly

Ben_WhishawI had a lot of fear in doing it for a long time. And who can say why? I’m not sure I know. Everyone was surprisingly lovely. I hadn’t anticipated that they would be, but they were. It takes courage [to come out] and people have to do it in their own time. It’s hard to have a conversation with people you’ve known your whole life about a very intimate thing. It’s massively weighted with all sorts of stuff, whatever the wider world is saying… it’s an intimate and private and difficult conversation for most people. There is so much tension around doing something like that. I applaud everyone who does it.”

Actor Ben Whishaw, who plays Q in the James Bond franchise and a gay man in the upcoming Lilting, speaking about his decision to come out publicly last year in a new interview with The Sunday Times

      Good for him! And a funny coincidence that his moniker is “Q”. :)

      Do The Gays accept big headed British Guys with no sense of rhythm? I’m just asking.

      The singer in the music video played the vampire boy Fenton on Penny Dreadful.

      @MarionPaige:

      I don’t know, do “The Straights” accept vacuous, blank eyed, pale women with no acting ability?

      I’m just acting because Kristen Stewart was in those Twilight movies. ;)

      There WAS a lot of tension when he came out…IN MAH PANTS!

      Seriously, this man is beautiful. And he’s a really talented actor, so I’m going to assume he’s got a good brain in his head too.

      I really like Ben. He was great in Cloud Atlas and Skyfall. I’m so very glad he plays for our team too.

      Defining yourself as gay immediately puts a restriction on you. It means you base your identity on your sexuality and that you sexually reject the very demographic to which Hollywood executives want you to appeal.

      @Billy Budd: Not to forget his tres gay Sebastian Flyte in the remake of “Brideshead Revisited.” The scene of him cavorting in the nude with Matthew Goode is a classic!

      Gee, and when you define yourself as male it means you base yourself on your gender, and when you state what country you are a citizen of it means you define yourself by your nationality, and when you define yourself as liking coffee you define yourself based on what you drink in the morning. @jmmartin: The ORIGINAL Brideshead Revisited (The BBC Series) is still unsurpassed in its sophistication, power and acting quality. But I agree that Ben was awesome in that movie.

      He has gorgeous hair. search images of him and he always has different beautiful hair styles. A little think but damn, he’s cute. He kind of ruined skyfall for me, by being distractingly cute.
