Prodi Pushes Marriage

Fulfilling his election promises, Italian PM Romano Prodi (pictured. Isn’t he cute?) has started the ball rolling on civil unions in Italy. Similiar to those in the rest of the EU, the bill will allow same-sex partners inheritance and medical decision rights, but will differ in that it will allow unmarried heterosexual couples to register, as well.

While this sounds like great news, one must remember that conservative politicians (not to mention those haters at The Vatican) still hold a tremendous amount of power in Italy. Thus, full passage of this bill seems unlikey.

Still, if our hopes can bring Tinkerbell back from the brink of death, why shouldn’t the same work in Italy? What’s that? We’re insane? Yeah, we know.
