Robbie Rogers sat down with GQ on his way to the magazine’s 2014 Men of the Year party to talk about losing his virginity.
“My first time with a girl was in high school,” Rogers says. “It was my junior year of high school. Still friends. You know, it was actually alright.”
“I don’t know how she enjoyed it,” he adds.
And this is when things start to get especially interesting.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
“My first time with a guy was actually not until I was 25, after I came out,” 27-year-old Rogers explains.
He describes the experience as “super awkward,” but leaves it at that. No sordid details, unfortunately. Though we’re sure it couldn’t have been any worse than what these guys went through.
“I mean, can you imagine dating and hooking up with a guy after 25 years?” Rogers asks. “I’m sure that he was like: What is going on?!”
We’re pretty sure that’s not what he was thinking, but whatevs.
“I think I’ve gotten a little bit better at doing all that stuff,” Rogers says. “So hopefully those embarrassing moments are over.”
Robbie, baby, if you’re reading and you ever want to practice your skills a little more, give us a [email protected].

“No sordid details, unfortunately.” Really?!? Nobody needs to know the details of his first time. Leave the guy some privacy.

Robbie, baby…Do me under the mistletoe!

He started having sex with women but then turned to men. Could it be that he had a bad experience with the woman, thus driving him into the arms of men? Drive right into my arms, Robbie. Do not stop, do not hesitate…let’s procreate.

I love this guy. He carries himself with dignity. He respects himself. That’s why, even though his celebrity status requires him to deal with questions like this, he won’t give “details.” Because he knows that giving details would cheapen him, his partner, and the experience. What a contrast to a certain shrinking subgroup of gay men for whom sex is cheap and loveless, and who talk about it like they talk about the weather.

I was 42 years old when I finally made peace with it. It was after my mom die and I had moved to California from Texas. I think we all have our own paths to walk. I’m happy for Robbie. He seems very grounded and sensible.

Being a sexually repressed, post-adolescent gay male, having been in a self-imposed closet at 25 can be quite a challenge!

Why does anyone care? I never understood why people are so interested in who everyone else is screwing. I’m only interested in who I’m screwing (or not, these days).

He’s beautiful.

Btw, during Howard Stern interview Neil Patrick Harris said his first time with a guy was after he was 30, don’t know why it was not an article here. The interview is on Youtube

I didn’t picture his voice to sound like that…….cool

@Jacob23: LOL at your comment. I don’t know where to start. You write as if you know him personally. ” He carries himself with dignity and respect.” Really? Do you know him personally? Have you at least met him? If you can really tell from a less then 3 minute online video of how he carries and respect’s himself, then you must be a pretty remarkable person.
Do you really think he’s going to wait until he falls in love, or is in love to have sex again?? And what makes you think that he has never had cheap, loveless sex: IE, one night stands? I don’t know him, but I’m sure that just like the rest of us, he’s had his share. And guess what @Jacob23: ,with that, you can still carry yourself with dignity and respect…

PLENTY OF DETAIL!!! Perhaps you meant not graphic? It is enough detail to inform why the “closet” is an unhealthy place for normal adolescent psychological development.
Your comment makes sense since you sound like one of those screaming schoolgirl fans of One Direction!

“I enjoyed it” with girl and still friends…” David Beckham? Why not a famous gay sports figure that paved the way for you to come out of your closet?
Good PR to not lose or offend female fan base/TV viewers or limit possible endorsements.
“…Awkward w/guy, but better now w/that stuff.”
Not a turn for a healthy gay man. I’ll just speak for myself!

@enlightenone: That would be “not a turn-on for a healthy gay man!

He’s a nice looking guy that seems fairly decent. I give him credit for doing the interview in the first place. I like his voice!
enlightenone
@misterhollywood: If it wasn’t scripted and not having a negative msg for a gay teen who feels pressured to have sex (he supposedly “enjoyed”) with a female for all the wrong reasons, it’s an interview that he shouldn’t have done “in the first place.” He had sex with the girl and was in the closet for a reason, a reason he is perpetuating with this “scripted” interview.

I have no objection to Robbie having had sex with a woman. It was part of his sexuality at the time. Don’t disparage it. He enjoyed it.
Many men have sex with both genders during their lives. I would bet London to a brick that most straight-identifying men have had some sort of sexual contact with men as part of their development.
Don’t forget that Kinsey found way back in the 1940’s – when male homosexual acts were punishable by imprisonment – that about half of men (or even more) had had fantasies about being with other men sexually.
If Kinsey could get straight-identifying men to admit it back in those days of punishment,, it says something about the power and fluidity of straight male sexuality in general.

Given your disjointed comments so far, clearly you struggle with complexity and drawing logical conclusions given the context of his “narrative.” It’s okay, Kinsey as your go to can contribute to your inability to discern fact from fiction!

I didn’t have sex with a man until I was 26, and I was a virgin up until then. It’s not unusual to wait that long. It’s like people expect you to do it when you’re two nowadays.

@MMDD: “I didn’t have sex with a man until I was 26, and I was a virgin up until then.”
Robbie WASN’T a virgin, rather according to his GQ [hetero target market] interview, he had sex w/a female that he claims he enjoyed and are still friends although he doesn’t know how she felt about the experience (?????).
It’s not unusual to wait that long.”
Not unusual, but not the average age for hetero teens – is 16! (Intentionally omitting the age for GAY teens for now.)
“It’s like people expect you to do it when you’re two nowadays.”
Who are they??????? I would say ONLY pedophiles!!!!!!!
MMDD
@enlightenone: “…rather according to his GQ [hetero target market] interview, he had sex w/a female…”
Yes, I know. Notice there’s a huge gap between 17 and 25. I’m assuming he likely had sex with more females during that time. Gay men having sex with women and then going on record about how much they enjoy it is like media gold these days.
“Who are they??????? I would say ONLY pedophiles!!!!!!!”
Clearly I was exaggerating to make a point. Stop overreacting.

@MMDD: “Clearly I was exaggerating to make a point. Stop overreacting.”
If you made your point, then, depending on your point, perhaps it may have been clear!
My “overreacting” clearly wasn’t effective since you still haven’t made your point! (I’ll leave it at one exclamation point so you aren’t distracted from making your point.)
“Gay men having sex with women and then going on record about how much they enjoy it is like media gold these days.”
I agree with you! What do you think that’s about? And are you agreeing with my assessment of the interview and it’s marketing intent and Robbie choosing to go along w/it?
MMDD
@enlightenone: See “hyperbole” in the American Heritage Dictionary.
“What do you think that’s about?”
Because it keeps the whole “is it a choice?” argument going. The media loves anything that keeps people arguing back and forth and shit stirred up.
Jacob23
@Tackle: Nothing dignified about whoring out your body to people who don’t love you or in using the bodies of strangers. Don’t assume that Robbie Rogers or anyone else is as degraded as you, Tackle. You hang around with other degraded people and you get a confirmation bias. In the real world, outside of your little sex-driven ghetto, the vast majority of people on Earth center their love lives around long term partners.

@Jacob23:
A nice little speech from a sanctimonious heterosexual troll posing as gay. Always interesting when you post this crap under different names.
You missed the part that states approximately 50% of heterosexual marriages end in divorce. On top of that 20 – 40% of men and 10 – 25% of women have affairs. 80 – 90% of people are not virgins before marriage. Do I need to go further?
I suggest you take your little screeds where they belong – in the heterosexual community – and not spend your time obsessing over gays.

I am a little puzzled by his commment that he didn’t have sex with a guy until after he came out! If that is the case, why did he come out? He , ovviously was under no pressure, had no hookups that he was involved with, so one one was the wiser; he could still go out and have a ‘pint’ with the boys afterwards and not feel fearful he was dropping hairpins! Some posters wonder why he had sex with a girl and then switch to men. Well, I’m gay and I had sex with women and so many other gay men have too, but I (and them) like the ;atter as better sex! Oh, wait, shall we call him bi?

@pscheck2: You don’t need a “therapist” as much as you need to be educationed. Yes, even at your age, no disrespect intended, corrective education will answer your questions about Rogers.
