Arnold Schwarzenegger
Morning Aural: The English Beat
A Special Request...

Homo-journo Mark Simpson recently wrote our editor an email in which he mentioned our "faultless" musical taste. Our editor wrote back his thanks, but mentioned it gets a bit tedious finding new and entertaining tune for you lot. Thus began a flood of fantastic music videos from Mr. Simpson, including The English Beat's 1980 single, "Mirror in The Bathroom."

We've also included "Save It For Later," after the jump.

In other Simpson-related news, Russian GQ honored the Brit as one of their "Forty Things That Changed Men's Lives". Simpson proudly notes that he get more page time than Sigmund Freud, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Biotherm Homme. Mazel tov, Marky!

Peter LaBarbera Blasts Pelosi For Gay Leather Fair

Peter LaBarbera popped into Fox's Hannity & Colmes last night to rail against the controversial, leather-centric Folsom Street Fair.

LaBarbera and his Americans For "Truth" are calling on Speaker of The House and San Francisco native Nancy Pelosi to take a stand against this "immoral" display of "tolerance run amok". Sean Hannity feeds into LaBarbera's Democratic bashing, while Alan Holmes pushes the activist on why he doesn't turn his attention to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, a Republican. "Because it's Pelosi's district," says LaBarbera. Never mind that Schwarzenegger runs the entire state.

Latvian Pastor 'Erases' Arnold's Gay Nup Veto
A Lesson In Creative Religion

Latvian pastor man Alexey Ledyaev took liberties with reality this weekend. The founder of the anti-gay New Generation Church used Arnold Schwarzenegger to instill fear in his flock's cold hearts:

Pastor Ledyaev said that the Governor had signed a whole string of California pro-gay and anti-family laws, and the “spin” also included the accusation that the Governor had actually signed the “gay marriage” bill (AB43: “Gender-Neutral Marriage Bill”).

“All the press wrote that he did not sign, but no one wrote that he had signed."

That's because he didn't sign it. In fact, he vetoed it. And, if he did sign it, does Ledyaev think no one would notice except for him?

Newspaper owner Vlade Kusakin also joined in the Arnold attacks. Meanwhile another publisher, Stendzenieks Armand, celebrated the anti-gay Watchmen and Ledyaev's church as instrumental in the fight for "human rights". Ha!

Not Anti-Gay Activist Likes Homophobic Bullying
Offers Ridiculous Criticism Of Elementary Law

Ridiculous has a new name, and it's Steve Wiegand. The Sacramento-based journo spent some ink this week decrying poking fun at SB 777, the anti-bully bill Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed earlier this month. Wiegand's analysis is at once hilarious and frightful:

…Today's topic: The injustice of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger having signed Senate Bill 777, which was authored by state Sen. Sheila Kuehl, who is widely known to be a lesbian. Which is like a homosexual, only female.

Anyway, folks, this here SB 777 should have been numbered 666, since it is truly the devil's work.

What this bill would do, according to Kuehl, is clarify, codify and make more orderly a law that has already been on the books for five years. Basically, it would make it clear that discriminating against – i.e., bullying, assaulting, taunting, ridiculing, spitting on, cursing or denigrating – someone at school because their sexual preferences don't square with your own is illegal.

That's pretty devilish.

[Apologies to Wiegand. We misinterpreted his words as hateful, when, in fact, they are quite hilarious. Frightfully so..]

Happy Endings: We Knew It!

• Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger did (not) make an unsurprising revelation today: the titular Terminator from the action franchise does dudes. His evil deeds in the first movie stem from an unresolved relationship with a 19-year old golf buggy:

He is so tormented because everyone expects him to live up to the tough-guy, robot stereotype and either make love to women or dismember them with a chainsaw.

"If you watch the first film closely it's obvious that what he really wants to do is kill Sarah Connor as quickly as possible so that he can get back 2029, mix a jug of margaritas and really sort out his personal life.

The Terminator drinks margaritas? There go years of fantasy. Sigh.

• Anti-gay Republican Patrick McHenry's finances sure are queer.

Jim Neal, who's fighting Elizabeth Dole in the North Carolina Senatorial election, confirms that he does dudes.

Schwarzenegger Loves Gay Kids
Signs Four Pro-LGBT Laws

Arnold Schwarzenegger isn't completely irrational. After again vetoing California's gay marriage bill, the Governator signed off on four other gay-friendly bills, including two which directly benefit guppies:

The Safe Place to Learn Act applies to publicly-funded institutions and activities, including alternative and charter schools, postsecondary institutions, instructional materials and financial aid programs.

Schwarzenegger also signed the Student Civil Rights Act and the Safe Place to Learn Act which protects students from harassment and bullying in public schools by making sure teachers and school administrators fully understand their responsibilities to protect youth.

Too bad Arnie ain't not his legislative powers for adult-sized rights, too…

Schwarzenegger Vetoes Gay Marriage
California Governor Upholds Dated Promise

The Governator has spoken: California won't be seeing same-sex marriage. Arnold Schwarzenegger upheld his promise and precedent by vetoing a Mark Leno-sponsored bill that amending marriage's definition. Men and women would be replaced by the more inclusive "persons," a concept that must not translate for Austrian born Schwarzenegger.

After delivering his blow, the Republican governor proclaimed,

It would be wrong for the people to vote for something and for me to then overturn it. So they can send this bill down as many times as they want, I won't do it.

The Commando and Kindergarten Cop actor's referring to 2000's Proposition 22, which tallied "nays" among California voters. That proposition, however, went forward nearly eight years ago, prior to the terrorist attacks, before the war in Iraq and prior to a small survey of 750 voters showing that about 43% support same-sex marriage. Perhaps Schwarzenegger's simply incapable of adapting to - or measuring - the times.

Schwarzenegger's opposition certainly don't support his tenacity. Equality California's Geof Kors sniped, "[It's shocking] he opposes discrimination based on sexual orientation and then veto[s] a bill that would have ended discrimination based on sexual orientation." Those, Mr. Kors, are what we call True Lies.

Religious Leaders Support Gay Nups
Ask Court To Do The Same

In other San Diego-related news:

Dozens of religious and faith leaders across San Diego are lending their support to same-sex marriage. On Wednesday, local ministers held a service celebrating in support of the controversial issue, filing a resolution, called an amicus brief, in the state's Supreme Court. The religious leaders from many faiths including Unitarian Universalism, reformed Judaism, Islam, and Buddhism, are among 400 others to have filed a resolution asking the court to approve the same-sex marriage licenses.

Will anti-gay Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger hear their cries? Probably not, but it's the thought that counts.

Equality California's looking for 10,000 signatures to persuade California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to sign the Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act.

Schwarzenegger's pledged to veto the bill, but maybe some not-so-adoring fans can change his mind.

Schwarzenegger To Terminate Gay Nup Bill
Star Politico Lives On Another Planet

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger ain't budging on his stance against gay marriage. The Austrian born politico says he plans to veto the freshly passed Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act.

The Republican governor said he won't change his position unless voters overturn an anti-gay marriage initiative that Californians adopted in 2000.

"It would be wrong for the people to vote for something and for me to then overturn it," Schwarzenegger said. "So they can send this bill down as many times as they want, I won't do it."

The bill would redefine marriage as a civil contract between two people, but would still let religious groups refuse to sanction the unions.

Schwarzenegger's taken such a hardline against gay marriage, he still hasn't met with any gay families. Nice to know the former actor's still living in La-La Land.

Cali Lawmakers Again Pass Gay Nups Bill
Headed To Gov's Desk

It's a gay day in sunny California, where Senators have voted along party lines to pass the Mark Leno-backed Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act.

This act removes gender from the state's marriage laws and replaces them with the neutered "a legal contract between two persons".

The act, which passed the House back in June, will now go to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who's expected to veto the measure as he did back in 2005.

Schwarzenegger Hearts Homos
Quietly, Of Course...

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger ain't about to allow gay marriage, but he's got no problem appointing ass-bandits to political seats.

Cali. Assembly Passes Gay Nups.

California's state assembly voted 42-34 to allow same-sex marriage. The issue's come up a number of times in The Golden State, but never with such civility. Representative Mark Leno, the openly gay politico who introduced the bill, scoffed at Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's vow to veto the bill, as he has in the past:

I don't care what pronouncements [Schwarzenegger's] made, it's his job to come to learn about this issue and to let us have our moment. I'm certain that he's an open-minded and open-hearted individual and when he learns more, he'll understand more.

Obviously Mr. Leno has high hopes for the Governator.

The vote fell across party lines, with all Republicans voting "no". Among the democrats, three politicos abstained from the vote - Juan Arambula, Mike Davis and Cathleen Galgiani, while two Democrats broke from their party: Nicole Parra and Wilmer Amina Carter. Traitors.
