No, the style guru hasn't gone straight - he's been anonymously writing for the estrogen-heavy website, wowOwow. For months Norwich has been penning columns as the "Etceterist," but today, Halloween of all days, he's decided to take off the mask and explain himself, like why he's been calling himself the Etceterist: This is a site with such gravitas and serious intent, so adding commentary and news about style matters, the fluffy vainglorious concerns about food, clothing and shelter — as opposed to the need for them — we had better make it clear to our readers that we know, that they know … this is the lighter side of life, the etcetera. Hence The Etceterist. Leave it to the lavender set to highlight the "lighter side." Now, where are our loafers? |
![]() ![]() Lesbian journalist Carol Anne Burger committed suicide last Thursday minutes before police were set to question her about the gruesome murder of her wife, businesswoman Jessica Kalish, who's pictured on the right. The women, who wed in 2005, separated last year, but stayed living in the home they shared since 2000. Though admittedly depressed over the break-up, Burger, who worked for Huffington Post, seemed to be pulling through, her friends say, but something went horribly awry last week. |

» Chirp, Chirp…
"[The] shift leftwards online has been matched on cable television, where Fox News, the rightwing news channel, has increasingly faced its mirror image at MSNBC. The latter’s leftish talk-show hosts, Keith Olbermann and now Rachel Maddow, a chirpy gay liberal, dish out scorn about Republicans in opposition to Bill O’Reilly and others at Fox." And no one wants to make America's silver fox out to be some sort of hypocrite or anything - he's certainly a good, down to earth journalist, but can we just pause and call bullshit for a second? |

Citing the state's already existing ban on gay marriage, the journos made clear that Proposition 102 has far-reaching - and dangerous - impact: At best, Proposition 102 is an effort to keep same-sex couples from ever having the right to marry in Arizona. At worst, it is the first step toward possibly ending legal benefits for people who are in same-sex relationships. The piece goes on to assert that gay unions do not threaten marriage, as the right would like you to believe, and that Proposition 102 amounts to nothing more than conservatives trying to "legislate morality." |

I suddenly saw with the back of my eye that a group of people were running at us and a second later we were attacked from behind. I tried to turn around to defend myself and get away from them but fell and found myself surrounded by what seemed to be four young guys who started kicking the living daylights out of me from all sides. Somehow, I managed to get back on my feet and get out of the circle, so I started running all I could without looking back. As I was running, I noticed I was basically blind on my left eye and my hands were covered in blood. No, we don't imagine they do. Nor does much of the world. |

Running for President was the single best thing former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee ever could have done: "Less than one month after signing on as a Fox News commentator, Mike Huckabee is working aggressively to expand his media presence. This week, Huckabee is meeting with Fox officials about plans to host his own show on the network. Plus, he’s subbing for Paul Harvey on ABC Radio Network and appearing on a number of existing Fox shows." [Politico] |

Readers, non-readers and everyone else in between, there's a virtual scourge threatening our internet existence - and, in fact, all existence: the fag bomb. You know, when people call other people a fag simply because they have differing opinions. It's really quite ugly and does nothing but stunt potential conversation. Thus, in an effort to keep human discourse alive, Kirby Ferguson has disseminated this righteous video on how we can - and must - decimate the dreaded fag bomb. |

Well, the journalist got flack for only profiling white, middle-class, educated men, which led some to wonder whether he simply chose to ignore people of color. Tired of whispers and murmurs, Denizet-Lewis sent out an email earlier this afternoon and tried to clear things up. He's not a racist, you see, but simply couldn't find any black people! In fact, there aren't many black marrieds to be found, he says - after the jump, of course. |

The Tokyo-born, California-bred 26 year old currently works as Huffington Post's National Editor, but traces his occupational origins to more activist endeavors at the Center for American Progress. Editor Andrew recently sat down with Pitney to discuss the intersection of journalism and activism, the state of the conservative movement and how there's no such thing as objective reporting.
