“13 Reasons Why” star Tommy Dorfman has plenty of tricks in his arsenal for getting attention, regularly strutting down the red carpet in gender-hacking ensembles or posting pics on social media where he’s barely wearing anything at all.

It’s this second strategy he exercised to great effect over the weekend, giving Instagram followers an eyeful by posting a vid in which he’s wearing nothing but a skimpy pair of Y-fronts.

I was like ‘I know but I can’t stop’. Three weeks later I went to rehab… We met in November 2012 and I got sober in June 2013.”

I’m glad he’s sober..now that I am , let me show off in my underwear.. look kid. You have a husband..he loves you..why the pictures ? I wouldn’t be showing off in pictures if I had a husband unless I’m not happy and looking for someone new. Something isn’t right…

He had a minor role on “13 Reasons Why”, which is an Netflix series that was supposed to be one season miniseries but will be returning. He’s a surprisingly passable actor.

Terrycloth, he’s not posting pix of himself in his underwear to attract a mate, he’s doing it to attract a job. He’s an actor. When actors are young and pretty and don’t have a huge body of work to rely on, this is one way for them to attract attention, remind producers, directors, and casting people who they are, and get called in for auditions for more work. And, good for him…as long as he doesn’t turn into one of those “Please stop objectifying my body” types who are also continually posting nearly naked pictures of themselves, I have no problem with this.

But that strategy just never works. There is a ton of b to f list actors and wannabe actors who show off on Instagram. It’s impossible to stand out that way now. And it doesn’t equate to work, like real acting work.
A lot of partners don’t give a crap about their husbands/wives/boyfriends/girlfriends showing off their goods on the gram, especially if it’s a certain type of relationship. And frankly, he seems to have one of those caretaker type spouses that he can control.

Actually, producers now look at how many Instagram followers you have and how many views your YouTube videos get. Showing off your sexiness is a good way to get a lot of views, which helps the acting career.

Where are these actors that benefited from being shirtless all the time on Instagram? Having a popular social media page is potentially appealing to producers. Needing to constantly be in your underwear to get them is not, at least not for men (and yes, I know that’s a double standard). Unless we’re talking about reality TV or porn.

Also, if you’re too willing to objectify yourself before becoming famous it’s impossible to not get “objectified” once you try to make it in the industry.

Tommy Dorfman is a handsome young man. I’m gad his husband has been a sufficient influence to woo him away from his self destructive lifestyle. I’m not aware of the location where the yellow shirt would be acceptable for wear outside one’s home, and it would not be a style or look that would appeal to me, but as long as Tommy likes it… anything goes… This is his article in Queerty, after all… RobtheElder
