At Sunday’s Golden Globes, Sir Elton John was quite confident that he’d take home the Best Original Song award and that Madonna would go home empty-handed.
On the red carpet, Elton’s husband David Furnish told Carson Daly: “Madonna hasn’t got a f*cking chance.” Elton backed him up, saying those words were “accurate.”
Turns out they weren’t—Madge won Best Song for W.E.‘s “Masterpiece” over a ballad Elton John wrote for Gnomeo and Juliet. We mean, she didn’t hire the award-trafficking Weinsteins to make her movie for
nothing, right?
Later in the night, Furnish did what every bitchy queen does when they feel they’ve been wronged—wrote a screed calling her embarrassing and narcissistic on his Facebook!
“Madonna. Best song??? F*ck off!!”
“Madonna winning Best Original Song truly show how these award shows have nothing to do with merit. Her acceptance speech was embarrassing in its narcissism.”
The Material Girl isn’t slinging mud back, thankfully: “He’s known to get mad at me, [but] he’ll win another award. I don’t feel bad,” she said after the show.
Gawker tells us their feud dates back to a 2004 European awards ceremony, when John made fun of Madonna’s lip-syncing during his acceptance speech. Real mature, Elt.

Poor Elton is slipping into old age quite ungracefully. He was once something great. Don’t forget that. Everyone gets old; but, not everyone turns bitter.
QJ201
Talk about some old bitter nasty queens. Elton may not be drinking, but is far from recovery if this is how he behaves.
Mark
His title of “Sir” should be replaced with “Bitch”. What a shame. He looks terrible too.
Mike UK
@Mark: I’m sure he prefer it to be Dame Elton John!
Sean
He’s a legend in his own right but has a sense of entitlement. Sorry Elton but Madonna has ALWAYS been the bigger star. He diminishes her talents as a way to make himself look better but instead he comes across as a venom spewing queen and his partner has absolutely no room to talk. Glad Her Madgesty was gracious enough to bite her tongue and take the high road.
James
Thats nothing but bitterness and jealously

“Masterpiece” wasn’t worthy of the Golden Globe. It has nothing to do with Madonna: it is a tired song and paled by comparison to Mary J. Blige’s nominated, “The Living Proof.”
But the Golden Globes have a long, well-established history of sucking up to people.
But, the gay fanboys will always stand by Madge. Even when her music is dreadful. She’s a sacred cow.
MikeE
@Sean: I’m not really a fan of either of them (nor Gaga), but I’ve never understood the high esteem Elton has enjoyed.
Personally, I think he’s a legend in his own mind.
His “husband”, on the other hand, with his shrill outburst was an embarrassment to all Canadians.
jason
Madonna just looks embarrassing. I’d compare her almost to a prostitute.
Cam
I didn’t think either song deserved to be up there. But the Golden Globes are notorious for continuing to nominate the people that THEY all knew as children.
It’s why Bob Dylan kept getting nominated years after most people thought he was dead.
As for a Feud between Elton John and Maddonna. John can go fuck himself. He is the one that said gays in America were idiots for fighting for marriage and that civil unions were fine…until that is he and his partner couldn’t adopt a baby because their Civil Union wasn’t good enough for the agency.
Then suddenly, when it effects HIM he’s out screaming about marriage. I’m glad that not only did that selfish douche lose, but that he lost to somebody he hates.
michael
Wow, Elton is beyond clueless. Not only is he coming off as the whiny little bitch but he just cemented Madonna’s higher level of fame and acceptance in the LGBT community. Props to Madge for taking the higher road and proving what a living legend should be.

@jason: That’s okay jason, I, along with many more than not, compare you with a cabbage. (Prostitutes are way more than than cabbages!)
Michael
Queerty, what are we going to do with you? Elton John said she didn’t stand a fucking chance as evidenced in the video and you said his husband did.
Regardless, I’ve always found Elton to be an embarrassment to the community, more than an ally.
Franco
It goes to show you that money and fame can’t buy you class.
tookietookie
Madonna is full of sawdust.
Zach
I don’t like Madonna’s song much, but I think Elton and David are totally out of line with their ridiculous commentary. Talk about being sore losers!
Not only can Madonna probably count on one hand the number of major industry awards (i.e. Grammy, Golden Globe) she’s won, but it’s the one lousy award the movie will receive — cut her some slack.
If anything, though, it makes me feel a little better about Madonna after the whole Lady Gaga “reductive” scandal — the woman has had her own battles to fight since Day 1 and hasn’t exactly had critical accolades handed to her on a platter.
CHEEKIEY
@Mike UK: LMAO
pedro
@MikeE: Why did you hyphenate the word husband…?
Alan Brickman
Madonna took the high road when she said he would win more awards…do your research…
jason
Madonna has no road except the fake one. She is known to fake her singing. Her Superbowl set will apparently be lip-synched. No wonder music sales have been plummeting. The ordinary American ain’t buying.

Elton John was a global superstar when Madonna Ciccone was still in 9th grade. If you weren’t there in the early 70’s, you can’t imagine how popular he was until he came out as bisexual in Rolling Stone in 1976, which killed his career in the US for years. Madonna has mostly been famous for controversy, not because she’s a great musician (she isn’t) or a great songwriter (she isn’t) or a great singer (Hahahahaha).
I’m not really a fan of either of them (nor Gaga), but I’ve never understood the high esteem Elton has enjoyed
I don’t know how old you are, but again, from 1970 – 1975, he had an incredible run. He put out 7 albums in 4 years from 1969-1973, albums like Tumbleweed Connection, Madman Across the Water, Honky Chateau and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road each packed with great songs. He churned out singles and great b-sides like it was nobodies business and he was easily one of the biggest concert draws in the world, he could sell out hockey arenas as fast as they could print the tickets.
One of the first concerts I went to was EJ as the Forum in Los Angeles in 1974 when I was 14, I’ve been to close to a 1,000 concerts since and it’s *still* in my Top 10. He’s a terrific musician, a fine piano player and his songwriting partnership with Bernie Taupin is one of the best in pop music history. Nobody can sustain a run like he had and if he’s not had a hit not connected with a movie or stage show in years, so be it.
WTF
Why did these 2 nitwits get their vaginas all sweaty over this POS song? “Hello Hello”? Have you heard this song? It sucks. Not that Madonna’s was much better, but it IS at least better. “Hello Hello” is probably one of Elton John’s worst songs–a labor of love? 11 years? Whatever dude. Tell you fugly wife to STFU and save the self congratulations when you actually put out a good hit sometime within the past 2 decades. I’m starting to think Elton is a bitchy cunt.
Sean
@jason: Seriously dude I get on here like twice a week but every article I read has your insane rants. We get it, you hate Madonna, you don’t think Aids is an issue, all politicans lie especially Hillary CLinton, BB sex is ok..dude you spew more venom then an elphant shits. Seriously get some prozac, get some sun, get some dick and lighten up. Fuck
FunMe
The 2 gap teeth musicians going after each other. Too funny!
I used to like Madonna a lot, but not much anymore. HOWEVER, in this fued, I side with Madonna since Elton John and his boy toy acted like in high school – all foolish and pathetic.
Jeff Lassiter
Every song Elton John has put out in the last 20 years has sounded exactly the same. Madonna may not be the best singer or the best dancer and blah blah blah, but she does know how to put on a show and at least put out songs we can dance to. Elton can’t do anything but scowl and pout. And the whole playing at Rush Limbaugh’s wedding? Call me petty, but I still don’t forgive that shit.
anoir
Mrs. Elton John’s narcissism to complain on facebook about his husband’s narcissism at being a sore loser is the height of narcissism.
Madonna loves the publicity of course, and she did show classy restraint in her response….

Nah, his albums with his band, Songs From The West Coast (2001) and Peachtree Road (2004) are terrific, he stripped out all the synths and gooey strings and back-up singers. SFTWC is a real return to form. His album with Leon Russell is surprisingly good too. Of course, they weren’t big hits, so people know him for his poor soundtrack work.
Justin
“I don’t know how old you are, but again, from 1970 – 1975, he had an incredible run.”
His run is over and has been for ages. Madonna has trounced not only him but every other recording artist, ever, with her achievements. Period. He is a bitter queen whose shelf life expired in the 70’s. When was his last hit, exactly? 1994 for his music on “The Lion King”?
One thing that Madonna manages to pull off is she doesn’t have to rely on an “incredible run” from a time period that has long since passed. She still has hits off of every album, 30 years into her career.
“Madonna has mostly been famous for controversy, not because she’s a great musician (she isn’t) or a great songwriter (she isn’t) or a great singer (Hahahahaha).”
First, the songwriting dig you took at her is ridiculous as EJ has never wrote his own lyrics. If she wasn’t famous for her music, why on Earth does she have more Top 10 Hot 100 hits than any other artist in the history of recorded music? Why are her concerts instant sell-outs? How is she the top selling female touring act in history?
Controversy doth not 350 million records sell.
david
“First, the songwriting dig you took at her is ridiculous as EJ has never wrote his own lyrics.”
No he wrote his MUSIC. That’s something Madonna has never done.

When Elton was 20 years into his career in 1997, he was having MAJOR success with Candle In The Wind (England’s Rose) and I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues. I think you’ve forgotten that they’re at two different stages in their careers and Elton has been around 15 years longer than her. In 15 years, when Madge is in her 70s she will be in the EXACT same place in her career as Elton is.
