Sean Eldridge, the 26-year-old husband of Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes, has filed paperwork to run for Congress.
Apparently Eldridge is considering going up against Republican Rep. Chris Gibson in New York’s 19th District in New York’s Hudson Valley.
It won’t be an easy fight: Gibson beat opponent Julian Schreiberman in 2012 by a 53% to 47% margin. The hope is that, since the 19th also voted for Obama in 2012, there’s room for Democrats to make inroads in 2014, and possibly even reclaim the House.
According to the Times-Union, Edlridge, a Democratic activist and investment banker, is “exploring” a run and has hired a political consulting and advertising firm. If he does throw his hat in the ring, Eldridge could position himself as a candidate immune to corruption.
How about we take this to the next level?

If he runs as a Progressive & eschews the Republican-lite approach of the Dem Party establishment, he can kiss his nascent political career good-bye. The DCCC & the Obamacrats will only support a Republican-lite member of the New Dem coalition who obeys Wall St. Just because Eldridge is gay won’t mean he’ll be good for America.

He’s an investment banker. You remember, the people who nearly killed the nation in 2008. I’ll pass.

Hope he wins. The super-rich really need to have their voice heard.

@JasonMacBride: He’s NOT an investment banker, he’s an INVESTOR. Unfortunately Dan Avery doesn’t know the difference.

He would be alright, he went to deep springs college which is a great school. The negative part is he is also one of those global warming fanatics who want to impose carbon taxes and a believer in kenyesion economics.
Freddie27
@brent: “global warming fanatics”? You mean one of those people who agrees with 98% of climate scientists (you know, the experts) that the atmosphere is warming due to human activity. We should tax carbon emissions the same way other harmful things like tobacco and marijuana (in CO and WA at least) are taxed to promote less reliance on fossil fuels, less energy consumption and encourage a switch to a carbon neutral, renewable-friendly economy. Also, it’s spelled “Keynesian”, and the main reason the US economy isn’t tanking is because we haven’t pursued the rich-wing Austerity economics that has killed growth in Europe.
Sean Eldridge is NOT an investment banker! He runs Hudson River Ventures, which encourages investment in small business, Mom-and-Pop stores in the Hudson Valley.
