The early life of gay serial killer/cannibal Jeffrey Dahmer has officially been given the Hollywood treatment.
Dahmer murdered and ate a total of 17 men and boys across the Midwest United States between 1978 and 1991 before eventually being captured, incarcerated, and murdered in prison. He would become one of America’s most infamous serial killers.

My Friend Dahmer is based on the 2012 graphic novel by John “Derf” Backderf, a childhood friend of the serial-killer-and-cannibal-to-be. The film claims to be “the story before that story,” and follows around a young Jeffrey (played by Disney Channel star Ross Lynch) during his awkward teenage years.
After premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival back in April, My Friend Dahmer is expected to hit theaters later this year.
Watch the trailer below… if you dare…

Some things are just better left alone. We know what Dahmer did, we don’t need the play-by-play. Just like I don’t need to be reminded that it’s been 25 years since the Los Angeles riots or 50 years since the Detroit riots, or we needed to see OJ Simpson on LIVE tv last week getting parole or the two made-for-tv series about that trial/verdict that was awful to watch the first time around.
Not everything in history needs to be made into a movie.

@WIndsorOntario……..”Some things are just better left alone.”
I couldn’t agree more. In 1980 I was working as an operator at Pacific Bell right off of Santa Monica and Gower in Hollywood. I got off at 10pm, did my usual walk to Santa Monica blvd to go home. A guy in a beat up van drives up and ask me if I wanted a lift. I accepted. Two blocks later when he slowed down for a red light I opened the door of the still moving van and jumped out. I knew that damn guy was nuts and to get the hell away from him. Two weeks later his face, the van and just who he was, the Freeway Killer (William Bonnin) was flashed across the screen. I had never been so scared before in my life. He was heading for the freeway (we were at Santa Monica blvd and Western ave when I jumped out) and there is no doubt had be made it to the Hollywood Freeway I would have been one of his victims.
As you said, some things are better left in the past where they belong or should be left alone. John Wayne Gacy has a tv movie and does Bonnin. I skip over both when their movies are shown as I channel surf. Elmer Wayne Henley was another sick SOB whom prayed on gay boys in the 1970’s down in Texas. Thank god he is rarely brought up but I do find it sad that b/tard is still alive. He should have been executed.

@Bob LaBlah
I want to commend you on your bravery on surviving that horrific event that has obviously stuck with you.
Would you care to elaborate exactly HOW you got out of that van? It is very well documented that Bonin had removed any and all handles on the passenger side of said van, as well as the sliding and back doors, as well as no way to roll down the window. He also, by the time he was caught had at any given time, someone else with him, one or two of a handful of men who participated with him in his crimes, compared to when he began.
So I guess you got him on a loner night in a different van.

Fun With Evil. It makes me want to vomit.

There was already a Jeffrey Dahmer movie with Jeremy Rener. That was enough.

Gross and unnecessary. Just like the upcoming Tarantino movie about Mason.
jeff1370
“Manson”. And any thing by Tarantino will be a must see.

They really need to research before writing because like said above…there has already been a movie made and I saw it! Scared the hell out of me!
ShowMeGuy
This movie can’t be any more nasty than the first movie about Dahmer.
Kangol
Can’t they leave this crazy, murderous white nutcase in the dustbin of history? No thanks, Hollywood!

I have to admit that I’m always curious to know what drives people to do the horrible things they do.
Maybe the movie will be educational and show us how to spot potential serial killers.
If you want to watch something lighter, CBS has a tv series coming on about “Young Sheldon” Cooper from Big Bang Theory.
GayEGO
I wish we knew more about our brains so we could heal them and prevent these things from happening.

Issues with the headline aside, I’m looking forward to this, as this article states, the movie is about his HIGH SCHOOL years. And the Jeremy Renner movie wasn’t comparable with a slasher flick, thank goodness.

I wonder how many people commenting actually read the very short article or watched the trailer?
So many reactionary comments that have noting to do with the story. Like trump supporters.
I hope the film is as good as the trailer looks. It looks like they did a great job bringing the graphic novel to life. This is a huge step for Ross Lynch.
Should anyone be interested in the origins of this film: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Friend_Dahmer
How often does the public get to hear from someone who was actually close to someone who went on to do horrible things.
If you have no interest in the book or the movie, don’t read or see it. Stop acting like you’re being forced to endure it.

Is the movie going to say how his father Lionel was extremely psychologically and physically abusive both to Jeffery and his wife Joyce that Joyce had to leave the marriage or risk being killed? Too bad Lionel didn’t do the world a favour and kill Jeffery.
ErikO
My friend Dahmer is a poorly written comic, the people involved were not even really actually friends with Dahmer and are only using the fact they went to highschool with him and saw him as the freak kid then that he was to make money and now get fame/infamy.
A father’s story by Lionel Dahmer is full of BS and it’s PR crap. Lionel was extremely physically and psychologically abusive to both Jeffery and Joyce-to the point that Joyce had to leave the marriage immediately or risk being killed. But Lionel does not tell the truth about what really happened. Lionel is a poor excuse for a “parent” and “Father” and should have never had children.

This is NOT the “FIRST” Jeffery Dahmer movie…HELLOOOOO Fact Check MUCH?

Well I have to to say those who do not learn from or desire to forget the past are destined to repeat it. Yes these serial killers were horrible people with some serious problems. I learned recently at any given point it has been determined that between 120 up to 200 active serial killers are loose in the United States. Perhaps being aware of some of these people will be a warning/lesson for others to be aware and keep their guard up. Do not ignore your surroundings. Just because you don’t wish to see these movies does not mean they won’t be made or seen. We can only hope for some historical accuracy and pray that perhaps they save one life.
