Five Gay Porn Stars That Share Names With Non-Porn Stars

Ever wonder how your favorite porn star got his name? Does everyone in porn actually name themselves after pets and streets, or is there a giant sorting hat—like in Harry Potter—that chooses porn names to shout as each newcomer fills out an application?

Neither, actually. In an essay for BuzzFeed, porn star, intellectual, and social media enthusiast Conner Habib talks about the daunting task of choosing one’s porn name, how he chose his, and why he thinks they contribute to the “discrimination against and misunderstanding of porn stars.”

Conner’s name has two origins:

“My name was carved from bits of my history. Conner: The name of one of two drunken Irish boys I saw dry humping each other at a pub in Killarney when I was 15. “Oh, Conner!” one jokingly yelped to the other, as they played at being gay. And Habib: the Arabic word for “sweetheart” or “beloved one.” I’m Syrian and Irish, and the name reflected my origins and displayed my Middle Eastern heritage, which is all-but-unrepresented in porn. It also helped me avoid innuendo names like Dick Powers or Johnny Thrust. Conner Habib sounded like a real person’s name (and it was!); it’s slightly clumsy, easy enough to remember.”

But Conner isn’t the only porn star that shares a name with a real person, or rather, a person not in porn. There are plenty of unsuspecting people on Google that share precious Google image search space with some pretty hardcore competition. Gay Porn Blog found at least 10 other people (NSFW) that share names with porn stars (or would it be the other way around?)

Samuel Colt, the exclusive Falcon Studios model that shares a name with one of the first men to exploit the assembly line to mass-produce firearms in North America.

Aiden Shaw, the Sex and the City character Darren Star named after his favorite ’90s British porn star.

Dale Cooper, the hunky hipster porn star that named himself after Kyle MacLachlan’s character in Twin Peaks.

Jeff Stryker, the New York Times reporter that has “NOT THE PORN STAR” plastered across his personal website.

And another, not included in GPB’s list, Dred Scott, the Titan exclusive model that named himself after the historic Dred Scott v. Sanford case of 1857.
