THR asks: You have some intense sex scenes and a locker room scene where you’re surrounded by naked men. How was that to shoot? And how did having an intimacy coordinator on set impact the situation?
Yeah, I think she had to review every single penis before putting it on the show. For me, it was interesting because that scene was actually very real, and the look on my face and the way that I was feeling was very real. The energy in the room of that many big men jumping and yelling and slapping you — nudity aside — I’m nothing like Nate, and it was so intense. I didn’t realize locker rooms could be so intense, but it was actually quite hilarious. I don’t care about that kind of stuff, and it’s funny reading all of the reviews now — everyone’s like, “There’s this many penises.” But when you’re there, it was just hilarious. How did he get through school, I wonder. They made us get naked & see each other & take showers together from the 6th Grade on. It was devastating humiliation for every modest kid. The Gym “teachers” were all perverts, gawking at our little boy bodies & not so little boy appliances.

Jeeze, the gym teachers weren’t all perverts. That’s just how it was then. We had to shower after gym class from Jr High through High school. When my dad was in High School the gym floor retracted to reveal a swimming pool. The boys had to swim naked when they had swim days.

I’m not sure how old some of you are but in the 70s we did NOT shower after gym class. The only time it happened was when we were on swimming and a shower was required to wash off the chlorine.

I’m with you. In my school, we did not shower after gym class because if we did, we would be late to our next class and reprimanded for tardiness. The only time the gym locker room showers were used was after intramural sports events, which took place after school.

I did junior high and high school in the ’70s and we HAD to shower after gym class. If it was noticed that you didn’t the coach would make you shower alone while everyone else, fully clothed, stood around and laughed.

Let me guess: dream sequence, didn’t really happen? etc. etc. OMG no young guy nowadays could endure the “humiliation” of spending a few minutes changing clothes in a perfectly normal locker room.
What a weird generation: they’re so freaked out by naked locker rooms, but they post “private” porn on social media and then they’re freaked out when it somehow ends up not so private.

The scene was not a dream sequence and had nothing to do with him being humiliated.
The character is just damaged beyond belief…
the sex tapes… both parties aren’t always aware that they’re being filmed.

Lol, well I do have HBO but from what I’ve read, this one may be tough for me to get into. Watching heroin addicts shoot up, that’s just gross and icky (to use the technical term).

I moved from Florida to Boulder and have noticed a big difference in modesty. The young guys here aren’t that weird about walking around naked in the locker room. Florida, never unless it was a gay gym. Actually the most modest generation I have seen is mine. Growing up in the 80s you never saw your fiends nude. The young guys now are much more open about nudity than then.
Was that scene in the show trying to imply his character is interested in guys but is a huge violent closet case? That was what I got from his internal voice talking about how he couldn’t stop looking at the penises.

We were REQUIRED to shower when I was in high school in the 70s – the coaches would check to see if your hair was wet afterwards and that was ‘proof’ that you had showered. Schools thought health and hygiene were important back in those days so they enforced it. And, we had ‘gang’ showers which was both nerve-racking and thrilling if you were gay.
Later in my life, I heard from coworkers that schools no longer required their kids to shower after gym class or sports practice. That was maybe starting in the 90s?

when I was in 6-12th grade from 88-95 we weren’t required to take showers at our middle school, we had a shower in our locker room and it was optional to use it, our school was brand new and we were the first class to attend, but it wasn’t required and usually if you took a shower you’d be late for your next class. I don’t know what they did at my high school because I took ROTC so I didn’t have to take gym.

When I was 6 years old, my Mother took me to the local YMCA (when it was men-only), and made me take swimming lessons. The females couldn’t enter the building past the front reception. Everybody who swam had to swim naked, and had to take a shower in gang showers afterwards. From Jr. High School through High School, everyone was required to take a shower after gym class, in gang showers. The YMCA I go to everyday now to work out, has gang showers only, I wouldn’t want it any other way. It’s amazes me seeing these young guys now, with bangin’ bodies, never even GO into the locker room, and if they do, they NEVER take a shower or enjoy the sauna. It is absolutely weird to me, and I believe they’re missing out on a whole lot of all-male camaraderie that exists when a group of guys are naked together.

When I was in Jr. High and High School, here in Manitoba, Canada, in the 70’s….we HAD to shower after gym class. I knew I was gay and had to really force myself NOT to get hard with all these naked guys in the gang showers. I would go in and just stare at the wall while washing and rinsing myself. Then I would get out of there as fast as I could. Way back then, I was small and skinny but had a big cut dick that did get some of the guys looking closely. Nothing ever happened because it was dangerous back then to be gay.
