“I take the apology back. And the sons, Don Jr. and Eric, or as I call them, Eddie Munster and Date Rape. Look, I’m not holding back on this family. This president is different. And I have been through the mill.
…
I wanted to make a statement about what a misogynist he is. And also I remember the eight years of the photos of the Obama lynching, and nobody said anything. Right? That was all okay. Facebook. That was all on Facebook. People were going to rallies with pictures of Hillary’s head decapitated at Trump rallies.”— Kathy Griffin on The View.

Honestly, Griffin’s only mistake was doing that shoot too soon. If she had released it post-Charlottesville and the “very fine people on both sides,” comment she wouldn’t have caught have the flack that she did.

I think that is a very astute observation.

After the criticism of Wolf this weekend, do you think ANY WOMAN can get away making jokes at the president’s/white house’s expense? Too soon, too vulgar, too feminine – these women never had a chance because this administration and conservatives won’t tolerate any lip from some FEMALE comedian.
mhoffman953
@Crystix
I wouldn’t say it’s that. It’s just that none of those “jokes” were funny. Holding a head covered in blood with an expressionless look, saying you hope a tree falls on a female in the White House administration, or comparing the female Press Secretary to a homely looking fictional character isn’t really funny. There are ways to be offensive and funny and none of those are examples of it.
Plus, most left leaning individuals would get angry if a right leaning person made those same jokes about someone from the Democratic party. They would boycott sponsors, demand an apology, and call the jokes insensitive and an attack on women. If that rule applies, why doesn’t that rule apply when the jokes come from a left leaning comic? There can’t be rules for some and rules for everybody else

I’m a person who tries hard not to allow partisan rhetoric to determine how I feel about things. I watched the Wolf routine twice. First just to find out what the hubbub was about, and then again as if those comments were being spoken about Obama’s administration.
I can honestly tell you that nothing Wolf said crossed any lines. Were they super funny jokes? Meh… shrug? Not really. But they were not offensive… not on their own merit and ESPECIALLY not when compared against the standard rhetoric of Trump and the modern GOP.
Personally, I think the faux outrage is purposeful… because the only other thing they could possibly have been upset about were the claims that Sanders is a liar, and they know that they don’t have a leg to stand on arguing that one. So they try to keep our attention on the completely non-existent anti-woman language in Wolf’s routine so that we’re all talking about that and not thinking about anything else she said.

Conservatives were the ones who said that PC culture needs to end. Now that the kid gloves are off they’re butthurt that people can criticize their behavior and demeanor and get laughs.
This White House should anger conservatives. Nothing about Trump’s administration is conservative. The tax plan will balloon federal debt, Scott Pruitt is under investigation for gross misconduct and wasteful spending, Ben Carson spent tens of thousands of dollars to redecorate his office on the tax-players dime, the President had an unprotected extramarital affair and then tried to silence the woman in question because she’s a porn star, and still tries to peddle the baseless claim that millions of illegal votes were cast during the presidential election.
The very fact that we can talk about porn stars when discussing national politics is an indication of how far we are from our norms and traditions.
And if you skip the press correspondent’s dinner don’t expect people to pull punches. If he had attended, it probably would have been a lighthearted roast. Since he didn’t bother to show up Wolf could RIP into him and torch the pieces.
And who hasn’t mentally compared Sarah Huckabee-Sanders to a gym teacher? She talks like exactly like one. Aside from that, Wolf’s jokes about her were all about her behavior. She does lie. She’s been called out on her lies. She continues to lie.

But saying Rosie O’Donnell is a fat pig, mocking a disabled reporter, saying you can sexually assault women because you’re famous, asking if there are any Hispanics in the audience before ranting about the wall and saying Megyn Kelly had blood coming out of her “Whatever” WERE funny?
dwes09
Absolutely correct and on the mark Cylest.
People must constantly be reminded that this woman loudly and repeatedly proclaims her Christian faith in interviews and yet bears false witness for a living. There can be no reconciling those two things.

Fortunately, the Wolfe backlash isn’t sticking. I see more people supporting her than criticizing her, and it will probably help her career.

Now we’re going to see who the real friends of the gay community are:

Gay porn director, Michael Lucas has even come out against Joy Reid for her comments and half assed excuse
Nothing will happen to her though. It’ll blow over with the next breaking story and people will forget about it

How is MSNBC going to attack President Trump for being an “intolerant bigot” using an admitted homophobe like Joy Reid?
dwes09
In the late 1970’s George Wallace, the last of the old school “Southern Democrats” (essentially analogues for today’s right wing, although the republican party foolishly refuses to ignore actual history as usual) repudiated his racist past, and begged forgiveness from the African-American community. Even before his later actions proved his sincerity, his apology and change of heart was accepted.
He remained conservative in every way, but embraced equitable treatment of all.
The modern right sneers at even the most sincere of apologies, and insists (despite the fiction of it) that people and things do not change.
If Reid apologizes peoperly and her actions demonstrate change, she is on solid ground reporting Trump’s acrtions and appointments.
Keep in mind that reportage of intolerant actions, and appointment of people known for intolerance, is not the same as simply attacking someone. Honestly though, excoriating someone for veritably intolerant action is ethical!

“Was it funny?” That’s the standard/question comedians say their work should be evaluated against. And when I first saw Kathy Griffin’s picture, I gasped and did not think it was funny. Now, I find her characterization of Don Jr. as Eddie Munster to be “fall on my a**” funny. ….. Did I think she needed to apologize for a joke gone bad; nahhhhh, except maybe to other comedians. ….. Also, I agree with her that there is a well-oiled outrage-machine waiting to pounce on anyone who criticizes the current administration. So on that count, I agree with her. But back to the point: her image was more of a (badly executed) performance-art piece than funny.
Heywood Jablowme
And the funny part is we know it’s not true.
We all know that Paul Ryan is the grown-up Eddie Munster.

I just hate Kathy Griffin and I wish she’d take a long walk in the woods with whats-her-name, never to return. God Almighty, I have to put up with Kathy Griffin again? Please tell me no. Make her go away.

It’s 2018. There’s this great new invention called, “not buying tickets to see comics you don’t enjoy.” Try it out and see how you like it!

@DCguy
We’ve been telling you numerous time what Joy Reid has said. I’ll lay it all out again
Joy Reid defended an NBA player’s anti-gay comments, said she couldn’t watch Brokeback Mountain because it’s gross then justified that it probably makes her homophobic and she’s ok with that, defended a marine general for saying gay sex is immoral, opposed a woman’s nomination to the Supreme Court because she might be a lesbian, claimed gay men have pedophile tendencies by being attracted to very young, underage boys and forcing them into immoral lifestyles, claimed that manipulating genes of a baby to make sure he wasn’t gay would be an interesting moral question, mocked gay celebs who might be gay, bashed Anderson Cooper for being gay, mocked Rachel Maddow for supporting gay marriage, claims gay marriage is stupid, and much more
gravityyaoi
Or ya know, we could just not make fun of appearances on either side left or right and just judge people on their actions… :/
BCbreeze
That is so crazy that it just may work. With all the stones thrown on both sides, you would think all the glass houses would be shattered by now. But actions are hard to judge when they are followed by so many he said she said moments when both parties put words in each others mouth, or change up words to fit a narrative. I will agree, it’s very childlike for both to be acting this way. You would think America would be better than this.

@music:
You and DC guy are on the same page. It is The Emperor of Poop, and Mhoffmann who routinely support regressive views and politicians.
And thanks for the accurate reminder of recent past history. It was the high tax rates on the wealthy in post war America that fueled the burgeoning middle class, built our exemplary (and now crumbling) infrastructure and began to address inequality in the US. It has been the Reagan “trickle down” myth that has so rapidly re-concentrated wealth at the top and prevented continued investment in both the majority of our citizens and our infrastructure.
Trump with his not unexpected disdain for intelligent regulation is expressing the hope of the corporate rulers that our working class can once again be manipulated and used as they were in the age of the Robber Barons.

I would also like to add, that many commenters who said Kathy Griffin in the above video looks like Carrot Top or Peter Pan had their comments deleted
However in this thread: https://www.queerty.com/donald-trump-just-nominated-nobel-peace-prize-twitter-not-20180502#comment-1249131
Someone called President Trump an “orange shit clown”. I’m wondering why we can call the President of the United States those names but we can’t say Kathy Griffin looks like Peter Pan. Can someone clarify so I’m clear on the rules?
