There’s been a lot of chatter about the upcoming sequel to 2016’s blockbuster Deadpool.
Last month, it was revealed that the character of Shatterstar would appear alongside Ryan Reynolds’ pansexual Deadpool. Now, the identity of the actor playing Deadpool 2’s bisexual, polyamorous superhero has been revealed.
Say hello to actor Lewis Tan.
31-year-old Tan is best known for playing Gaius Chou on AMC’s Into The Badlands and Zhou Cheng on Netflix’s Iron Fist.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
The character of Shatterstar first appeared in the comics back in 1991. He was originally presented as asexual, before his character was eventually changed to be bisexual and polyamorous.
His superpowers include accelerated healing and the ability to create shockwaves and teleportation portals using his two swords.
In 2009, his kiss with Rictor was the first gay kiss in a mainstream Marvel comic.
It’s not totally clear whether Shatterstar’s sexuality will be a subplot in the film, but it doesn’t seem outside the realm of possibility considering the trailer shows Deadpool grabbing a handful of Colossus’s hard-as-steel buns:

…the move at 2:32 in the trailer was pretty cool

Except the movie treats the characters as the first version from the comics – like they included the straight version of Colossus, not the gay version of latter comic storylines. And then Deadpool made all the homophobic remarks to the straight version of Colossus. So following that take on characters this is the original asexual version of Shatterstar, rather than the bi version.
Ummmm Yeah
The gay Colossus is from another reality. He’s not the “real” one.
Creamsicle
616 Colossus is straight. Ultimate Colossus is gay. 616 Shatterstar is bisexual, but the limited amount of X-Force I’ve read makes him out to have a semi-open understanding with his boyfriend, Rictor.

Spoiler alert, it doesn’t matter who they got to play him, he gets killed off immediately.
Ummmm Yeah
What a shock, DC still doesn’t want to admit rampant homophobia from minorities already put a wedge there.

Hubba hubba! A-ooga-aooga! Wowee mcWow wow!

I missed the original Deadpool but I may catch this one. Lewis Tan is a very attractive man.

You seem to have consistently displayed a preference for men of color. Is that racism in your dictionary?
Cylest Brooks
@CastleSF, future comments like these will be deleted. Instigating is childish and a violation of the comment policy.
I’m leaving this one up so that folks can see you get schooled by Kangol.

@CastleSF, I celebrate and find beauty in men of all races. Since I’m one of the few who openly notes the beauty of Black, Asian, Arab, Latinx, and mixed-race men, you call that a “preference.” But find beauty in many kinds of men is the opposite of “racism.” You really should look in the mirror, because that term, “racism” is calling *you*, and calling you out.
CastleSF
But white guys are somehow conveniently omitted in your list. Must be a clerical error.
Kangol
@CastleSF, no one is omitted. I said “men of all races.” You’re the one centering white men and demanding that I focus on white men, which nearly everyone else already does on here. What is your attitude called? Racism. Don’t project your issues on me, but think a bit more about and get help for them.
Crystix
“yellow washing”… is that a thing? I feel like that’s the racist equivalent to “fetch”
Sorry Gretchen, “Yellow washing” is never gonna happen
Greg
Isn’t Deadpool sort of gay? I want to see them get it on.
Creamsicle
Deadpool is nuts. I don’t know if any sexual label actually fits him. He’s fun though and his big and gay antics made a lot of nerds and geeks more accepting of gayness.
jason_melvil
Deadpool is pansexual. He’ll do it with anything. His list of character he wooed included both women and men and even a mop once. Seriously, a mop.
Heck, he seduced the abstract entity that represents Death even.
Ummmm Yeah
Then the term whitewashing must really offend you too.
Cylest Brooks
Whitewashing is not an offensive term because it represents a real issue. Yellow-washing is a logical fallacy you created in your head to justify a racist opinion that can’t be justified by any rational argument. That’s why one is offensive while the other is not.

I love the picture of Lewis Tan in Blue Lagoon, Iceland.
It looks so peaceful.
Beautiful setting.

What would be the point of making a movie character bisexual and polyamorous, then have him be married to a woman and faithful? Especially in a freaking superhero movie, where relationships are incidental, at best?
What people do in real life doesn’t necessarily make for interesting plot points in movies.

Guy reminds me of Keanu Reeves. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, mind you; but I wanted to play air guitar when I saw him.
Zambos271
He is a beautiful man.
