In an Op-Ed for The New York Times, Russian President Vladimir Putin argues his case against US military action in Syria and concludes by taking issue with President Obama’s case that America is “exceptional.”
There are big countries and small countries, rich and poor, those with long democratic traditions and those still finding their way to democracy. Their policies differ, too. We are all different, but when we ask for the Lord’s blessings, we must not forget that God created us equal.
Spotting the hypocrisy of that statement, considering the way the Russian government has maligned and discriminated against its LGBT citizens, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi took to Twitter to dole out some succinct sass in 140 characters or less:
Hopefully, when Pres. #Putin says “we must not forget that God created us equal” he includes gays and lesbians in Russia.

Thank you!
Don’t forget, when there was….hesitation on pressing forward with gay rights issues, it was Pelosi who forced the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell Repeal on both Congres and The White House

There are many, many heteros who have helped us along the way. Many equal rights heroes and heroines whose goal was to do what is fair and right.
viveutvivas
Is this the same Pelosi who called for the prosecution of Snowden for bringing to light egregious human rights and privacy violations by the U.S.? Hypocrisy much?
Deepdow
@viveutvivas:
The American government has violated human rights in the last few years abroad and at home, surely, but what they don’t have, unlike Russia, are concrete laws in place against a specific demographic. There are no anti-muslim laws in America. You’re claim of hypocrisy is incorrect.

Vladie is latent.
manjoguy
If Pelosi is concerned about “equality”, why are U.S. politicians and other groups exempt from this awful Obamacare? Why did our despicable AG Holder not prosecute the New Black Panthers’ voter intimidation in Philadelphia during the ’08 election?
viveutvivas
@Deepdow, I wrote a reasoned rebuttal in nice language but the filter is censoring it for who knows what idiotic reason. Whatever. Bye Queerty.
1EqualityUSA
viveutvivas, So in other words, you were censored worse than a Putin-in-panties-painting by Queerty again. This censorship is such a turn off on this site.
Deepdow
Hmm. I would have appreciated your rebuttal Vive. One wonders though what censorship you are referring to. I mean, perhaps it’s something else? Sometimes websites falter, no?
Cam
@manjoguy:
I LOVE these right wing trolls that try to come in here and equivocate. Oh Gee, having a federal law labeling a group of people second class citizens and stripping them of their rights is EXACTLY the same as you not liking a law that gives insurance to people that don’t have it. (Eye Roll)
JDJase
@manjoguy: Lol, sometimes it just amazes me how dumb and naive people can be. You must have read that in an email forward or a random facebook post eh? Probably right between the “Obama is having a $100billion luxury prison built in Illinois!” and the “Obama is having ‘In God We Trust’ removed from all our money!!!” posts.
Fact: Not only are members of congress NOT exempt from Obamacare, they (and their staff) HAVE to participate in it; starting January 1 they have to buy their insurance through exchanges created by Obamacare.

Politicians aren’t the problem in this country. It’s that this country is full of idiot voters like yourself, who are so quick to believe any email or facebook post without any evidence to back up the claims, and then scream about it as much as you can. If we weeded out the idiots like you, things would be just fabulous.
The worst part is that you don’t even feel embarrassed that you’re shouting these things like a maniac and are 100% wrong. But I’m sure you’ll just go on screaming about things you saw on facebook like an idiot, because you’re too lazy and dumb to read something longer than an e-card facebook post.

@Cam: I think you are forgetting the role the log cabin republicans played. They fought the issue in court from 2004-2010. The Obama justice department fought them in court. But somehow Obama gets all the credit.
onyxsky
@viveutvivas: exactly! they are using their bullshit stance on gay rights to make themselves look better. these motherfuckers ain’t any better than putin. in fact, even though putin is lagging when it comes to human rights, he is not nearly full of shit as our politicians. those motherfuckers work for corporations.
MK Ultra
@onyxsky: Russian politicians are also just looking to advance the interests of their rich elite. So they deserve no accolades for that. Putin and his cronies are just as full of shit…Fuller! Those motherfuckers work for Russian billionaires.
brent
@MK Ultra: What does Russia having billionaires have to do with the subject? Are you saying that in the communist days things were better for gays? If yes, I think you need a history lesson.
MK Ultra
@brent: What I’m saying is Russia’s hands are just as dirty as America’s, if not dirtier. The politicians are not better. They system is not better.
You need to be less emotional when you post.
How you twisted my comment into “Communism in Soviet Russia was good for gays” is beyond me.

Brent, your comment is correct except for the problems that happened later.
Patrick Guarino was head of Log Cabin when they filed that lawsuit. He was a good leader, had integrity, was all about the idealism, not the party so when the Party ran on an anti-gay platform he continued to endorse candidates that did not follow that line but refused to endorse the candidates who did.
After he left Log Cabin changed. The leader after him, lied to support McCain claiming things like “McCain didn’t vote for the AZ. bill that prevented gays from adopting” He left out the part that since McCain wasn’t in the AZ state legislature he COULDN’T vote on that bill and also left out the part that McCain appeared in two different commercials supporting it.
Fast forward to the leader after him Clark Cooper, he just flat out supported anti-gay candidates, he saw his job as being to shill for the GOP and cover for them if need be. A typical action by him was to endorse the opponent of Rep Patrick Murphy, who was the Iraq War Vet who INTRODUCED the DADT repeal, and to cheer his defeat by the opponent who wouldn’t answer questions on gay rights.
So Log Cabin absolutely filed that case, and that was fantastic. The only sad part is, the case would have never been filed by the later leadership. Thank God that the old leadership was there when they were, and if they had stayed in charge I think that the organization would be much stronger than it is now.
