DOUCHE OF THE WEEK

NJ High School Teacher Viki Knox Really, Really Hates LGBT History Month

Each week, Queerty picks one blowhard, hypocrite, airhead, sanctimonious prick or other enemy of all that is queer to be the Douche of the Week. Have a nominee for DOTW? E-mail it to us at [email protected].

Remember Randy Buell, the Florida teacher/NOM centerfold who got temporarily suspended after writing a comment on his Facebook wall about nearly throwing up over the cesspool of sin called marriage equality?

It turns out Mr. Buell has a female counterpart in New Jersey.

Our Douche of the Week is Union High School teacher Viki Knox. She’s currently under investigation by the Union Township School District for calling homosexuality “perverted” and “a cancer” on her Facebook wall. But she differs from Buell in one significant way: instead of one comment, she wrote reams about her disapproval.

Seriously. Pages and pages. And we pulled out the craziest bits. We promise—you’ll want to read this.

It all started when Knox posted an image on her Facebook wall of a school display for LGBT History Month and announced how she’s “pitching a fit” over its existence.

Soon after, commenters started piling on Knox for being anti-gay. In defense, she knocked out response after response—which, of course, only made her sound much worse.

A parent who saw the comments contacted local attorney John Paragano who then wrote the district calling for Knox’s dismissal.

The web-document of her original Facebook comment thread goes on for 36 pages, most of which she spends justifying her point of view. We read through the entire thing so you wouldn’t have to and picked out the craziest bits. (We have however kept her bad grammar, spelling and punctuation, just for LOLs.)

Here’s one on how she loves people who have the sinful homosexual cancer:

Homosexuality is a perverted spirit that has existed from the beginning of creation… I have friends and loved ones who are practicing/living as homosexuals. Yes I love can care about them. We hug and exchange gifts. We have family dinners. But how they live and their actions, behaviors -CHOICES are against the nature and character of God! Do I tell me so? Yes, of course. Do I treat them bad? If course not! Jesus never did that to ANYONE he meant… I do not pretend to know ALL things. Nor do I pretend not to have biases, failings and faults. But I know sin and it breeds like cancer!

Then she wishes 15-year-old girls were fortunate enough to lose their virginity to pimps:

As a 15 yr old girl, how many positive fulfilling sexual encounters has she had with a man to know or THINK she wants to only have sex with another female. Most of her experiences would have been with some male trying to practice his techniques and control on her. I haven’t run across any teenagers/young adults fortunate enough to be introduced to sexual relations by professionals: gigolo and escorts.

NEXT: Turning your back on your students

This tasty bit has her ragging on gay parents who throw their gay ways in society’s face:

Union is not South Orange/Maplewood where one out of four families consist of two Mommies or daddies. (I’m exaggerating) Why parade your unnatural immoral behaviors before the rest of us? AND YOU ARE WRONG! I/WE DO NOT HAVE TO ACCEPT ANYTHING, ANYONE. ANY BEHAVIOR OR ANY CHOICES! I DO NOT HAVE TO TOLERATE ANYTHING OTHERS WISH TO DO. I DO HAVE TO LOVE AND SPEAK AND DO WHAT’S RIGHT!

And did you know that a school display made entirely out of paper can make you queer?

The [LGBT Month] display should not be in the high school. UHS is not the setting to promote, encourage, support, and foster homosexuality. I’ve used words such as unnatural, ungodly, and immoral. I love my family members and friends that practice alternate lifestyles but I do not condone or support their lifestyle.

But she’s really most concerned for the well-being of LGBT students:

Professionally trained to handle the fall out? And I dont mean protecting them from Christians telling them that God loves you and he created you for more; he created you not to practice homosexuality and I love you too! THATS WHAT I TEACH AND PREACH ma’am! No I’m talking about when the gays bashers, bullies, and mean girls ?nd out who’s really “freaky” in the building! The students already make negative disrespectful comments about teachers they think are gay.

And she considers teaching kids about famous LGBT people to be the same as teaching them to become self-abusing prostitutes:

Six and eight year old gay children?!? Ridiculous! Homosexuality is a conscious choice to engage in sexual relations with your same sex. Yes I have difficulty with adults nurturing and accepting these attitudes and behaviors in children. If a man was encouraging an eight year old girl to be a call girl/escort, everyone would be ringing DYFS off the hook. If a nanny was encouraging her young males to practice self-grati?cation and then do it to each other, the parents and community would be raising the dead! They would be ridiculed at school. If caught sent to the nurse and/or principal. Parents, DYFS and poss police called in. It would be a circus. But lesbians, gays, bi, etc that’s appropriate to teach love and happiness? Okay. Whatever you say.

Even though the American Civil Liberties Union has already promised to defend Knox, we bet you five bucks that the National Organization for Marriage is gonna choose her as their victime du jour by next week. They’ll talk about how LGBT activists have bullied the school into investigating Knox for her religious beliefs.

As Towleroad commenter Dann Cobb noted, Knox would be fired for making racist or anti-Semetic comments, so why not anti-LGBT comments?:

“What if the principal of the school were an out gay man or woman? What if some students than took what she said as a reason to disobey the principal? Or if one of her students was gay… how would that affect that students ability to perform in her class?… There’s a tipping point with racial and religious minorities at which point the environment conducive to education has been poisoned? Is there no such tipping point for what a teacher says about gay people?”

The school district could punish her if her comments constituted a breach of contract. Though some are ambivalent about penalizing people over Facebook comments, you have to wonder when state school boards will begin to explicity prohibit such bigotry, even if presented on public online forums during personal time.

We didn’t pick Knox as DOTW for her beliefs—sadly lots of people feel the same as her.

We singled her out because her prolonged invective expresses a genuine disgust for the LGBTs in her community, many of whom are parents, students, teachers or school administrators. Y’know, the very people she is charged with helping.

So all together now: What a douche!
