We regret to inform you that Senator Barack Obamaâs grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, who helped raised the Senator since he was 10, has died after a long battle with cancer. She was 86-years old.
The Democratic presidential candidate released a short, sweet statement along with his sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng today:
It is with great sadness that we announce that our grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, has died peacefully after a battle with cancer. She was the cornerstone of our family, and a woman of extraordinary accomplishment, strength and humility.
She was proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and left this world with the knowledge that her impact on all of us was meaningful and enduring. Our debt to her is beyond measure.
Itâs a crying shame Ms. Dunham couldnât see her grandson complete this election cycle. Not in person at least.
The family will have a small, private ceremony and ask that condolences be made in the form of a donation to a cancer-centric charity.

I can only imagine how sad Obama is. I was very close to my grandmother. If I was only days away from possibly becoming the next president, it would kill me for my grandmother not to see that. It makes me wonder what her last words of encouragement to him were. I believe he took a break from the campaign trail last week and went to visit her.

Paul Begala actually had something insightful to say on CNN today — he remembered that President Clinton’s mother died while he was in office and he had but one day to mourn before he had to go to Russia for a summit there. It’s a whole other world when you are president or the nominee — you can’t take time off like everyone else can.

I didn’t want to be the one to bring up the issue of a possible ‘planned,’ (un)natural cause of death, but it was Obama who said she wouldn’t make it to election and there was no mention of cancer in anything i read or heard on MSM at the time of his trip. I didn’t even want to have this thought in regard to the ‘timely’ death of his grandmother, but could it really be possible that he had her on a morphine drip and designated the prescribed amount to be given her that would do her in the day before he would be elected just for sympathy votes? I mean for chrissake’s he didn’t even bring his wife and kids for his final farewell trip to see the woman who raised him after his own mother ditched him with her. WHERE THE FUCK WAS THIS CANCER AT WHEN HE WENT TO SEE HER FOR A BROKEN HIP???
