“I was really pissed off the academy left out my sister Alexis in the memoriam, because Alexis had a great body of work, but Alexis was one of very few trans artists that worked in the business.
At a time when we have trans kids that can’t even go to the bathroom at school, you would think the academy would have a little bit more respect for a group of people that are murdered, and trans women of color are most likely to live in extreme poverty, making $800 a month, so I think the Oscars have a lot of learning to do.”—Patricia Arquette, explaining to ABC News why she’s upset about the In Memoriam tribute at this year’s Oscars ceremony

Fair point but it shouldn’t come as any surprise.

Probably because they were all bit parts and/or B (and that’s being generous) movies.

That has never stopped them before. I think she should have gotten a mention for her role in “The Wedding Singer” alone. That was no B movie.

I could one up the Sandler movie and give you Of Mice and Men, Pulp Fiction, and Lords of Dogtown. Alexis has definitely been in cinema, she should’ve gotten a mention.

Most of the people on this list were more famous for their TV roles and should be In Memoriam at the Emmys NOT Oscars
Chris
Maybe the Academy should hire the Wachowskis to create an opening montage, ala Sense-8’s, of those who passed during the previous year. They manage to get a lot of images into a tiny time without seeming to give any one of them short shrift.

I’ve said all along that they need to stop having the “In Memoriam” segment because they always end up leaving someone out and pissing people off. If the Academy wants to honor their dearly departed then they should have a separate program devoted entirely to the subject.
Low Country Boy
Agreed. It needs to go.

We can all sympathise with Ms Arquette but in this case I really doubt that there was anything personal about it given that so many others, and better known, were also left out. It is appropriate to have that section to say a final goodbye to friends and colleagues but perhaps it should be limited to those whose contribution to entertainment has been mainly movie based – though these days a lot of movie people also do at last some tv. As someone else suggested, maybe there should be a separate 30 minute programme for that part.

I can’t think of anything Alexis did besides getting accidentally shot in Pulp Fiction and beating up a guy on The Surreal Life. Either way, I don’t see any reason to be offended beyond politics. She was identifying as male the last couple years of her life, btw.

Oscars are 3 + hours long as it is…if they put every sound man., script writer , actor , singer etc it would run about 25 minutes to half our and still they would leave someone out…someday it will just be a scroll of names in under 2 minutes….
