You don’t need this rough news report translation to understand what took place over the weekend in Rome: a flash mob to raise awareness about a recent string of anti-gay violence there. The photos say it all.
From attacks on a gay singer to an arson attempt on a gay club to violent attacks on a gay couple, Rome’s Gay Street is not as gay-friendly as you’d expect. Last month, there was a vigil; over the weekend, it was a flash mob at the city square Piazza del Popolo — partly to generate attention about the attacks, but also to call on lawmakers to move on a bill specifically criminalizing anti-gay violence.

How about we take this to the next level?

I’m glad they roamed to get as much exposure as possible. BTW – the activist in pic 6 is adorable.

Hello folks from an Italian man living in Toronto. I’m trying to raise in North America the awareness of what is happening in Rome and Italy. I sent this e-mail to a number of Canadian GLBT associations but had no response so far. Read it and comment here: http://anellidifum0.wordpress.com/2009/10/15/italian-lgbts-cry-for-international-help/
