That’s Udaya Kumar, a design professor at the Indian Institute of Technology in Mumbai, holding up his winning entry to create the new symbol for India’s currency, the rupee. I actually quite like it, even if I don’t expect my computer keyboard to find room to squeeze it in anytime soon. But let’s not forget: India’s cabinet had the chance to be truly creative with this thing.
