Sex without shame: Get to know the liberated subculture of gay pigs

The gay pig identity reaches beyond the physicality of gay men but comprises the most uninhibited deviant acts they want to do to each other. It rejects the notion of taboo, empowering the exploration of kink, the erotization of bodily fluids, and taking politeness out of desire.

You’ll most likely come across pig culture when browsing gay hookup apps, but it has long existed before the internet as a way to signal good ol’ fashioned raunchiness. To channel your inner pig, release shame, feel your sexual cravings, and let Queerty guide you.

What is a gay pig?

Gay pigs can manifest as the most obvious or unsuspecting individuals – it’s a sexual state of complete openness, pun intended. It’s like doing “dirty talk” with your body, except you’re giving in to your deepest desire rather than worrying about if it turns on your partner.

That being said, since pigs want sex that’s transmutative, they typically want their partners to be into it just as much as they are. The identity centers on a transgression of bodily boundaries, often involving porous masculinity, relentless penetration, and plenty of lube. Well, some pigs prefer to use spit.

Pig play lets your most bottled-up sexual inclinations loose. The subculture welcomes you to satisfy your pleasure without trying to tame anybody else. The absence of shame and stigma is uncompromising, especially considering the exchange of bodily fluids and other kinks.

Unlike the tribes found in the gay animal kingdom, your physical attributes have nothing to do with being a pig. Bears, otters, pups, jocks, and twinks can all be one if they’re into it. To be clear, being a pig doesn’t mean you’re into every fetish.

In fact, it’s as much a mood of horniness as it is a lifestyle. Some closeted men decide to be pigs for the night and return to missionary with their wives tomorrow. Other men opt to make unencumbered sex their happily-ever-after.

The origins of gay pig culture

Queer people have evolved with the times, but pushing the envelope on sex has remained a constant. You can trace pig terminology as far back as other gay subcultures and kink/BDSM verbiage.

During the 1960s, you could’ve found it in the personal ads section of magazines and in erotic stories and other editorial pieces. Many people might recognize it as a popular category in porn, with many gay websites making it a genre.

Misconceptions about gay pigs

It’s important to remember that gay pigs have varying risk tolerance and safety practices. Not to mention the pig identity is not associated with any particular fantasy, fetish, or substance use, so it’s always better to ask rather than assume.

Gay pig culture is not synonymous with barebacking, but many gay pigs identify with the feeling of euphoria when another person’s juices enter their body. (Breeding is a kink also found in straight culture.)

Dr. João Florêncio, the author of Bareback Porn, Porous Masculinities, Queer Futures, said it best: “What pigs do can vary significantly. But, one of the things that defines ‘pig’ subjectivities is, to me, an investment in excess and in transgressing the boundaries of the body. That excess and transgression can be through being gang-banged by several men, or being fist-f*cked, or exchanging all kinds of bodily matter such as piss, spit, cum, or sh*t.”

The subculture was founded on hypermasculinity, but that doesn’t mean femme men can’t be piggy.

Gay pigs faced the HIV epidemic as an oppressed community and resilient activists

Like most gay men, gay pigs changed their sexual habits during the HIV epidemic. However, this didn’t mean the sexually fiery subculture was extinguished. The visibility of gay pigs was understandably rarer due to the stigma and dangers of the virus. Community leaders from the subculture pioneered activism, including promoting testing and safe sex.

Kink and leather spaces were pivotal for sheltering the LGBTQ+ rights movement, and gay pigs were warriors on the frontlines. You couldn’t have queer liberation without sexual liberation.

The introduction of PrEp took the subculture out of the shadows, empowering men to step forward with pig pride online and fostering visible communities. You’ll see modern gay brands build their audience from the powerful association, most notably Nasty Pig.

Oink if you’re not afraid to have a good time

Many people will find a gay pig in them if they let their innate sexual instincts free. But that doesn’t mean some aren’t more vanilla than others, and it’s OK to enjoy what you enjoy.

Gay pig culture is a celebration of shameless manly pleasure and eradicating taboo. But when it comes to sex, mind-blowing orgasms are all about compatibility, and the spontaneous nature of chemistry will surprise you.

The best way to overcome inhibition is to feel safe with your partner – or comfortable with the situation. Therefore, wild sex happens when you’re ready for it.
