Timothée Chalamet broke our hearts in Call Me By Your Name. And then he starred in a film about cannibals called Bones and All… which was released at the same time his CMBYN co-star, Armie Hammer, was making headlines for allegedly being into cannibalism IRL.
Awkward!
Now, Chalamet is finally breaking his silence on the whole thing. Sorta.
In case you need a refresher: Hammer was accused of sexual violence and assault by multiple women, including alleged cannibalistic fantasies and a “desire to drink [a woman’s] blood” in 2021.
He was dropped by his agency and exited multiple projects but ultimately cleared by the Los Angeles County District Attorney earlier this year.
The irony of working on a movie about cannibals with Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino wasn’t lost on Chalamet. That’s for sure.
“I mean, what were the chances that we’re developing this thing?” he told GQ in a recent cover story.
But despite rumors, the project had been in the works since 2015, so there was no connection to the Hammer allegations at all.
“[The false reports] made me feel like: Now I’ve really got to do this,” the Dune actor explained. “Because this is actually based on a book.”
(Guadagnino himself called any correlation “preposterous.”)
That being said, the heartthrob behind Elio was hesitant to comment on his beloved Oliver’s, erm, supposed sexual proclivities.
When asked about his feelings on the situation, Chalamet told the reporter, “I don’t know. These things end up getting clickbaited so intensely. Disorienting is a good word.”
Clickbaited?! The man was accused of cannibalism!
The interview marked Chalamet’s first comment on the scandal since the news broke in 2021, when he refused to go into it in an interview with Time. (“I totally get why you’re asking that,” he said. “But it’s a question worthy of a larger conversation, and I don’t want to give you a partial response.”)
And what has Hammer been up to since cannibalgate?
In 2022, TMZ spotted him training to sell timeshares in the Cayman Islands. However, pics of him on the job led to an immigration investigation. And as he told Airmail back in February, “No one will hire me. No one will insure me. And no one will touch me because if they hire me, then they are the people who support abusers.”
Over the summer, he was caught dining with Alicia Vikander in Italy. And according to AP, he wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post, “I look forward to beginning what will be a long, difficult process of putting my life back together now that my name has been cleared.”
To be fair, it will be pretty hard to move past House of Hammer. Once you’ve got a thought-provoking Discovery+ series documenting you and your family’s most terrible indiscretions, it’s kind of game over.
That being said, Hammer might have a big screen return lined up. If we ever do get that oft-discussed Call Me By Your Name sequel, that is.
Guadagnino told Variety that a second film is “a wish and a desire” but he has “not made up [his] mind about what would be the story.” Hammer would “of course” be invited to reprise his character.
As for Timmy, he’ll star as the titular chocolatier in Wonka this December. His second turn as Paul Atreides in Dune: Part Two arrives in theaters in March 2024, and he’s working with Austin Butler’s “entire Elvis team” to prepare to portray Bob Dylan. Which sounds… interesting.
Oh yeah, and he’s also a HUGE fan of our favorite homoerotic nationalist flick Top Gun: Maverick.
“[The film] was just hugely inspiring to me last summer when we were making Dune,” he told GQ, calling it “one of the greatest films [he’s] ever seen.”
For the record, we love that beach volleyball scene, too.

I doubt it was something Hammer talked about at work.

Clearly, he did not eat anyone. As fetishes go, who cares?

First of all Timothy Chalamet is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Armie was his co-star and not a relative. He can’t say anything because no matter what he says it will make the news. If he says something “Nice” he supports an abuser. If he says anything critical about the headlines will be “Call Me By Your Name” sequel unlikely after co-star Timmothy Chalamet latest comments.
Nothing has been proven. Gloria Allred dropped the accusers as clients when their stories didn’t seem to pass the smell test.
Now people say all sorts of crazy things. I highly doubt Armie has ever ate anybody or truly wants too. Remember even King Charles (Formerly of Charles and Diana) said to his then mistress (Camilla Parker Bowles) that he wanted to be her tampon?
I agree that any accuser has the right to be heard. But when the person they accused of is cleared we need to “Let it Go”. As a nation we keep holding on to this that anger us. #Metoo has helped but also help create cancel culture. Cancel culture is a cancer on this country that when anybody addresses it also gets cancelled.

First of all; “There Is No Such Thing As Cancel Culture (TM).”
Though it is curious how cancel culture keeps missing so many opportunities to prove there is no such thing as cancel culture….

Good luck to the two entirely normal people above me and their quest for a bizarre global society where erotic cannibalistic desires are normalized and you face no social consequences for declaring them to others

Cancel culture is so very real. And seriously, no one is cannibalizing anyone, you prude.

Well, I’m going to watch Hammer’s movies again, if he ever makes more. He’s one of the two best-looking men on the planet. (The other is his costar in “The Man From UNCLE”.)

Henry Cavill. Imagine their babies.

People need to get over it.
A fetish is a fetish is a fetish.
Was he an actual cannibal? No.
Could his comments have meant he was so into the women he wanted to “consume” them? Yes.
People who get off talking about hardcore aggressive sex aren’t necessarily going to go out and “split someone open”.
People who enjoy alien porn with extra tentacles going here there and everywhere aren’t necessarily going to sexually assault an octopus.

Scripted by the great James Ivory, “Call Me By Your Name” was a beautiful movie, but as he’s not interested, they should scratch the idea of a sequel, Hammer or no Hammer.
As for Hammer’s career, it’s time MeToo and the rest of the ignorant Cancel Community grew up. The best of an artist is in their work. If these Philistines had been around in the past, there’d be no Caravaggio, Picasso, Wagner, Brahms…
