It’s 2016, and if you still haven’t discovered the comfort of moisture wicking underwear, we have a New Year’s resolution for you. Moisture wicking underwear is all about the fabric. Cotton and other plush fabrics are so absorbent that they’re slow to dry and can result in some uncomfortable situations. Moisture wicking materials are absorbent too, but they dry more quickly, thanks to science and some innovative underwear tech.
A lot of guys think “moisture wicking” means moisture repelling, but that isn’t the case. Moisture wicking materials work by drawing moisture from your body, and using capillary action to push that moisture to the surface of the material where it can evaporate more quickly. That’s part of the reason why so many moisture wicking fabrics are thinner and lightweight. It’s a shorter journey for the moisture to travel, which, in turn, keeps you dry and comfortable. More and more underwear brands are designing moisture wicking underwear and not necessarily for the moisture wicking action. It used to be that moisture wicking materials were only found in athletic collections, but now people want that breathable moisture wicking comfort at all hours of the day. Micro modal is the most widely used moisture wicking material. It’s light, it’s breathable and it has a sleek texture that feels incredible on the skin. The fact that it stays drier than cotton is just another plus.
