With all the boldface names who dropped out of June 25’s DNC fundraiser in D.C., a report circulated that the party took in a cool $1 million — which would’ve been $250,000 more than last year’s take. Except that million dollar figure isn’t backed up by any evidence beyond an unnamed source from The Advocate. Now, skepticism is growing on all fronts as to whether DNC insiders are trying to trumpet a bigger figure than they actually earned, which would amount to a classic PR spin move to rebuff any argument that the closing of the gayTM had any effect.

Aren’t these things public record? Why are we operating on rumor and PR?
wondermann
The same way Queerty and other LGBT bloggers are operating from misconceptions and misinformation

Gee, what a shock, you mean a political organization lied? The same way that they can say that ending don’t ask don’t tell would be tough becuase it doesn’t have support even though polls put the support for ending it at over 70%? Come on, the only shock would be if they DIDN’T lie about how much money they pulled in.
Lastly, if they had pulled in a million Obama wouldn’t have had that hastily pulled together commemoration of Stonewall. They would have said “Hey, we pulled in a ton of money, obviously they aren’t THAT upset with us”.

Yes, this IS real journalism, a rarely spotted animal these days. If you are a member of the press (or just a blogger) you must question everything. So often our news is merely regurgitated from some other source rather than the reporting source actually doing the leg work. Good job, Queerty for finally asking the question. Now get to the bottom of it. I for one would be quite pleased to find out the truth is the take was much less than $1M. Then they will be doubly embarrassed for not only taking in less but for being so threatened they they had to lie about it!
Cam
@Leto: So true!!! I remember during the election that the newscasters would just read off whatever the campaigns had sent them, they would preface it by saying “The McCain Campaign says”…or “The Obama Campaign says”… But there was no journalism to be found.

@Fitz: America blog says in the article linked to this post: “We’ll have to see if today’s spin matches the actual numbers. The DNC has to file FEC reports every month. The next reporting deadline is Tuesday, June 30th. So, we’ll see the reports in July. Then, we’ll know who gave and how much.”
Fitz
@mk: Can’t wait to see the report.
OhYeah
I have no doubt they’re a bunch of liars.
Captain Freedom (HRC doesn't speak for me)
One thing all of you fail to notice is that this fundraiser was originally supposed to raise over $3M. The very fact that we spoke up cost the Democrats 2/3 of what they could have made had they stopped sucking off the fat cock of the Evangelical Nazi establishment.
