“Niggas be doing anything they got to do to get in position,” says the rapper Cassidy, likely unaware of the double entendre he just delivered. But he’s “not willing to do that, so you might not hear me on the radio.” At last, a hip-hop gentleman with standards!
As for those commercially successful rappers? They’re the ones in “gay situations” (or “devil-type situations”), he says. And while Cassidy (real name Barry Adrian Reese, a convicted killer) doesn’t name names — which is silly, because the rap world is all about picking fights with those above you to raise your social standing — me thinks Kanye West and 50 Cent are on the tip of his jealous tongue. Those are the guys doing “all that little faggot shit niggas be doing to try to get in position.”
Mixed in between his attack on Rappers Gone Gay is something about how he’s allowed to travel to the Middle East? Because there are no gay rumors chasing him?
Fitz
Damn. I was hoping he would. Well, at least that leaves him more time to do all that Sambo shit.
Cam
I love how he claims that we might not hear him on the radio because he refuses to do “All that faggot shit”.
Um…or it could be because he sucks.
jason
Barry Adrian Reese is shit personified.
Luxury
I will never understand why Queerty feels the need to make a post every time some idiot who is of absolutely no relevance whatsoever, says something homophobic. I mean really. What’s a Cassidy?
randy
@Luxury: A “Cassidy” is apparently an uneducated, barely literate animal.
Hank
Is rap or hip hop even relevant to anyone anymore? Their ghetto ignorance is apparent just by looking at, and listening to them. We should really care less. Thankfully they’ll piss of the wrong person one day and be gone!
kayla
Ha ha ha ha ha!! Somebody should tell this idiot that gangsta rap is practically dead! He should just stop with this nonsense, this shit is soooo 2003, it’s over you idiot!!!! As for all the other idiots who will use this uneducated fool’s comments as an excuse to spew racism, well…have at it. Human beings will always be what they are; hateful vengeful animals!!
2 cents
Rap and hip hop is just basically music for convicts to get off of. It’s not intended for sane thinking individuals. Healthy minded folks don’t want to hear about drive by gang rapes, gang bangs, hoes, pimpin, selling drugs on the street and a victim mentality laced in VULGARITY. Sadly, some parents in the suburbs and ghettos let their lost children to this filth and you better believe it has an impact on them. But hey, that’s the choice they make. You want to align yourself with people who call themselves artists for REMIXING classic tunes from the 70s and 80s and infiltrating it with disgusting language just to buy over sized gold chains…go for it. Enjoy hood rat life.
And before anyone calls this racist, don’t project dear. I can’t stand Eminem more than all of them combined.
kayla
@2 cents: I’m no hip hop fan, but what a generalization!! Do you know what hip hop even means, it’s the beat, it has nothing to do with the lyrics!! Not all hip hop is about the things you speak of. Listen to Kanye West’s new album, is he talking about gang banging, and hoes! Are Jay-z and Alicia Keys singing about crime and victimization in the song New York! Not all rap or hip hop is negative, hence the more specific designation of “gangsta rap”. Even little Willow Smith singing about her hair, it’s dumb, but it’s not some negative song!! Please stop demonizing a whole musical expression! Gangsta rap is dead anyway!!
j
@kayla: Ok, so the willow song’s stupid, alicia keys isn’t hip hop and is definitely the best thing about that song and the only reason its famous and kanye has done his fair share of talkin’ about hoes. Gangsta rap’s dead and for good reason. The best things in hip hop (as you said, its about the beat) are happenin’ in left field. Check out ants by edit; that’s someone taking the whole thing forward. I’m so sick of this slavish sampling of the 70s and 80s (and even 90s now, have mercy). The whole thing’s retrograde and that probably accounts for the backward views of its makers.
kayla
@j: I’m no hip hop fan so I won’t be checking out anyone! I was just a little concerned by the negative generalization!! I’m in my Beatles, Rolling Stones phase and I’m very contented to remain here! I just don’t like generalizations, except when it comes to calling the whole of humanity scum, then I’m all for it!! Because, let’s face it, we’re all scum, deep down inside!!
Kelly
This kid is an idiot. Period.
The fact that some of you are generalizing all of hip-hop as the genre for convicts is very sad to me. There are numerous hip-hop artists out there who have come out in support of LGBT equality, like Lupe Fiasco for instance, who are making amazing POSITIVE hip-hop music that deserves our support. I’m talking about positive, intelligent lyrics that speak to people. So much so as a matter of fact that when Lupe’s label started bullshitting and pushing his new album release date back his fans came from all over the country to gather outside Warner Bros records and picket until the CEO himself came down to appease them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctATL_pb1d4
OhMan
Everything related to hiphop/rap is pretty much junk that won’t be remembered 2 years from its release, much less 30, etc., years later. We’re not talking about the Plattters, nor classic Motown here. It’s a talentless genre (including Kanye West- a created no-talent “star” if ever there was one). So, I sort of agree with those wondering why Queerty posts about every rap homophobe statement. But, maybe it’s important, because who knows if statements like that encourage queer-bashing or not, since SOME people out there might actually listen to him and know who he is.
Zase
I’ve only ever met girls name Cassidy. Maybe he’s trans.

ummmmm…. people

McMike
Yup, talent has absolutely nothing to do with getting played on the radio… Please, he’d be the first one sucking another guy off if it would get him more airtime.
Luxury
This is why I hate topics like this. We’ve taken the focus completely off of the individual and instead decide to attack hip-hop culture and artists who have NOTHING to do with Cassidy. Those who are saying hip-hop is dead and it won’t be remembered 2 years from now must not remember the same exact things being said in the late 70s and early 80s. Taken a look at the Hot 100 lately? Hip-Hop isn’t going anywhere and it shouldn’t. Leave hip-hop out of it and stop generalizing.
S/N: Say what you will about Kanye West but one thing he is not is “created”. That’s Britney’s area.
diVkid
@kayla/@kelly:
what you both said. exactly.
thankyou for restoring some human.
@ fitz. — let me ask you: are you having a laundry problem? unaccountably finding holes in your pillow cases? have you ruled out moths? you have. could they in any way be described as eye-hole sized? are they infact eye-holes? tell me, is your favourite colour…yesss white, ya’ beat me to it ..haven’t you perked up there lil’ fellah. do you have a penchant for pointy head apparel?…..iiiii think you need to sit down i have something to tell you…..
it hurts more to find it here because you expect much more from them here. but the blind spot is bewildering. and soul destroying.
kayla
@diVkid: “Soul destroying”??? Really!?! You’re surprised that gay men are capable of blind bigotry?? You must have lived a rather sheltered life. You sound just as silly as the white queers sounded after the passing of prop 8, and how SHOCKED they were that black people, who knew discrimination first hand, could possibly discriminate against them. As if there was ever a time in human history where one group’s oppression negated their ability to oppress others!!! Please grow a backbone. If these silly anonymous comments are destroying your soul, you didn’t have much of a soul to begin with!! Get used to the despicable human race, or get out already!!
A message from a life long misanthrope!!
OhMan
Both Kanye West and Britney are simply created. So are Mariah Carey and Lady Gaga. Along with most of the “stars” of music today. It’s all totally uncreative nothing. For each of those individual “stars” they probably have ten people who look vaguely the same so you can send anyone of them out on stage during a concert and they can lipsynch the computer-generated “words” and everybody thinks it’s the same person. (Only on certain TV shows like Jools Holland do you see genuinely creative exciting musicians, so not all is lost). And so much of the public is so stupid that you just tell them THIS person is the new star and they all just accept it and clap mindlessly.

I absolutely hate how when any non-white person makes a homophobic comment people on this site start saying appalling racist stuff, supposedly to “make a point”. It makes no point. It really is totally disgraceful and I cant understand the thought process. Just stop and think for one second!
JoeyO'H
Another loser rapper with a career in a toilet using “gay” to make attention. I guess his rap “music” just isn’t good enough and he must make videos like this to gain attention.
It surprises me how people who experinence racism first hand are sometimes the first to be racist and sexist themselves.
Kanye West is the king of hating rappers. His music is not well recieved as well as his treatment of people with his hate speech.
Soupy
I have no opinion of Kanye’s talent. But he does come across as a narcissistic dolt in interviews.
RLS
@Luxury: Well when said idiot is black it allows some of Queerty’s knuckle-dragging commenters to unleash the racism that is only barely veiled in all the other posts.
Tricky
Dude is an uneducated idiot, I remember hearing about this guy in the early 2000’s, but that was it, never to hear his name again. Thanks Queerty. Some things and people just don’t need additional publicity. Like this guy and SP, Queerty, please restrain yourselves. And I’m really saying this because after I did a Google News search, no one else is talking about this. If a tree falls in the Forrest and no one is there, do we really care?
Jonathan
Yo Queerty readers are saying some RACIST AS FUCK SHIT all on these comments all the fucking time. It fucking sickens me.
Also, Cassidy is an ill rapper from my home town and I could give a fuck what you all heard about it.
randy
@Jonathan: I don’t care if he’s black, white, or green. How is it racist to call out an ignorant fuck for being an ignorant fuck?
CONVERSATION CHAMBER
Queerty, I really question your motives for posting this. Cassidy is basically a one-hit wonder from over half a decade ago who no one is paying any attention to (but you.) What’s the matter, is 50 Cent not giving you enough vague fodder to spin into something homophobic-sounding for the sake of a headline these days?
Tricky
@Conversation Chamber, I agree. No one here cares about what this dude said, except for perhaps the groupie above, no one else.
SteveAtlanta
Instead of the black community (my community) denouncing this form of art “hip hop” it is to busy jumping to defend it ignorantly and sheepishly thinking that any form of disdain for “hip hop” culture means disdain for black folks. I’m black and KNOW hip hop is what generates violence in my community, homophobia in my country, and thuggish mentality in this world. Never underestimate the power of mass media. This is not art nor is it music, it’s CRAP for mindless individuals who has built up anger and need a ring leader. Don’t insult music.
ewe
I can’t stand stupid young black people who don’t know their own history.
JasonYeb
o we can’t call out a black homophobe because of his skin color? FCK THAT BULL SHIT! I’m sick of my community having to be so damn PC. If you’re a THUG expect to be called out for being a homophobic POS thug! You don’t get a free pass because of your God Damn skin color.
TIcreolinc
I’m black- biracial bit consider myself black do to my upbringing- and people like this kid make me put my head down in shame. For all those making the assumption the black community supports and endorses rap music, you’d be surprised to know most educated black individuals know the biggest stain on our community is rap and “artists” like this clown. They do nothing but further fuel every negative stereotype attached to black folks. I’ve long said, anyone who defends rap and most of hip hop is an internal racist because that genre does nothing to contribute in any element to anyone’s walk of life, except for the talentless hack who throw an uninspired song out there and make fortunes than shamelessly show off their NEW MONEY wealth. Vile and breeds a mindless society.
OhMan
OhMan : SteveAtlanta : It IS an insult to music. But I think the classic Motown (and pre-Motown) stars will always be remembered, and will hold up as classics, while individual rap “stars” will come and go and be forgettable in the long run.
Hilarious
A bunch of fags being racist.
Pot, kettle, etc.
You little ignorant morons will never learn. It’s almost embarrassing to be gay when you little shits have a place to air your hypocrisy.
I swear I’d love to hear one of you start that shit in real life where you can and will get beat down.
But who am I kidding I’m sure most of you racists don’t venture outside too often and when you do you certainly don’t speak your simple minds because you know your place.
Cry all over the internet about black people. They’re certainly not thinking about you. Remember the bullshit you spout when you’re begging black people to help us get equal rights.
OhMan
Hilarious : Some gays might be racist but I don’t think they’re being so in this case.
jason
Black culture is known to be exceptionally homophobic and culturally backwards. It’s a very patriarchal culture built on the hatred of anyone who doesn’t adhere to the male heteronormative line. I have no hesitation in claiming that some black individuals are just as anti-gay as Fred Phelps of the Westboro Baptist Church.
On an individual basis, black people can be great people. If you met them, they’d be great people. However, the over-arching cultural correctness within the black community compels black culture towards homophobia. Don’t underestimate the role of black women in all this. Black women can be exceptionally homophobic.
OhMan
Jason : I agree U.S. Black society (and in other countries) is overall screwed up, but, yes, everyone has to be taken as an individual. I guess that goes for anybody of any race or sexuality.
Tricky
I was among the first black person on this thread to call out this person as a person that just wanted attention. Because as I pointed out, no one is paying attention to him except Queerty. I did not mention I was Black at that time because I did not feel the need to do so. But at least a couple of people have resorted to make generalizations of all black people to say that as a group, Blacks are generally homophobic. One commenter even laughably commented that “Black culture is known to be exceptionally homophobic and culturally backwards”, this is really baffling as he did not name his source. The problem is that when you start to generalize a race instead of the individual, people start to notice things about other races too. Such as Whites as a group have done some pretty fucked up shit too. There is of course the entire enslavement of an entire race of people, that had to have legislation done by the courts to remove the blood from the hands of the Honorable and Just America. And there are to this day states that have to be dragged to court, just to remove the last vestiges of Jim Crow laws that are still on the books. No one dares to generalize White America as a group that is culturally backwards,(at least not on Queerty) although you can find many examples if you are brave enough to leave this site. Now if we were to look at facts, and just the facts there is no question which race has done and is doing more to harm Gay rights in this and other countries. And I say other countries because America is a leader, and whatever way America goes, so goes most of the rest of the world. Take lawmakers for example, although there are several members of Congress serving in the House, there are Zero Black Senators in this country. And those of us in the know, knows that the President supports repeal of DADT, the House of Representatives have already passed a bill in the house. There is only one group that cannot get their shit together and does not have full support of repealing DADT, that is the Senate, and there is not a Black person among them. So if you can’t leave race out of it then fine, but at least be honest about it.
John (CA)
@Oli1989: They have made a point alright.
I think everyone got the message loud and clear.
For all their disingenuous protestations of “colorblindness” and self-congratulatory proclamations about how America is now “post-racial,” the old vitriol is bubbling just beneath the surface.

@Hilarious:
“I swear I’d love to hear one of you start that shit in real life where you can and will get beat down.”
You raise a good issue. The need for gays to defend themselves, including their right to speak freely without being intimidated or threatened by thugs. Also .. if black rapper are making derogatory comments about gays, should gays beat them down?
prohomo
@jason: So true.
jason
Justnow,
Oh, look, I agree with you about the notion that gay male culture is exceptionally ageist and appearance-obsessed. I’ve made the comment before that gay male culture is defined by its appearance fascism. It’s a vain, self-serving, narcissistic culture that revolves around the body and sexual activity.
This is one of the reasons why I don’t consider myself a part of Gay Inc. I don’t want to be a part of a sex club similar to the Playboy Club.
justiceontherocks

I don’t know why, but at first glance at the title of this post, I thought you were saying that he wasn’t going to be using gay slurs in his songs. Haha, how wrong was I. You can fuck off buddy.
Sam
Just stumbled across this site, and I thought I’d throw in my two-cents. I’m most certainly glad that there’s many ‘gay-news’ sites that give the LGBT community the news that effects us. However, the negative tone of this site is a major problem for me.
The whole point of news like is isn’t to throw it back in their face (although sometimes I do think an offensive position is necessary) but instead to point out the success that we love, and the failure that we mourn, but learn and grow from.
But the way this site nit-picks for anything that might even have the tiniest hit of homophobia, most of which seems to be unintentional or meant in a sarcastic/humor tone that most people would understand, is a serious drawback.
Hate against hate only leads to war. Making out straight people in the media to be a group of anti-gay conservatives out to get us all is a horrible idea, seeing as it would only breed the exact same attitude from the LGBT community.
markc

@Kev C: Nice straw man, you ignorant prick.
Nothing else to even say to you since your reading comprehension is subpar.
XRitrain
@jason: Jason, I wish I could say I disagree with you but I can’t. Black culture can be a militant one full of homophobia and unless BLACK GAYS address that issue, and combat the issue, and acknowledge black homophobia..no strides will ever me made. Black gays just simply either don’t come out of the closet to combat homophobia, or don’t realize homophobia hurts them most (culturally and societal aspects) and I say this as someone who is biracial. Facts are facts. Being ignorant to them isn’t helping the problem.
Kev C
@Hilarious: You ddn’t answer my question. Should a rapper using homophobic language get beat down for it? With fists and such.
IonMusic
Kev C. Call a spade a spade and never back down from doing so by those who fail to call out the homophobia in this thug because they are to busy misdirecting their anger at you. Allies like yourself who aren’t afraid to speak the truth, even if it requires not being PC, and are willing to make a keen observation as you did really impress me. Unless we start identifying our enemies directly…no accomplishment will ever be made. And you’re exactly right. Notice the people defending this thug always resort to violent rebuttals. The apple clearly doesn’t fall from the tree and their thuggish behavior even in this comments section only further proves your point.
Black Jack44
@kayla: i agree with you. the way some of the people generalized a whole generation and culture of music and downplayed it as irrelevant makes them no smarter than Cassidy. how can you say who listens to hip hop anymore when the guiness book of world records this year named jay z and beyonce the highest earning entertainment couple and that marriage consists of a pop/r&b/sometimes hip hop artist in Beyonce and one of the greatest hip hip artists to ever grace a mic in jay z. and thats just one example. You wanna know who still listens to rap and hip hop? go ask all those millionaire billionaire label executives whos listening while theyre cashing the checks. Just because you dont like what one person does whos affiliated with a group doesnt mean you demonize the entire group and gays of all ppl should know that. if anything the people should be asking whos listening to gay people because it damn sure aint politicians and law makers. Thanks for standing up for hip hop even tho you arent a listener and being a voice of reason among small minds! #LuvKayla
Black Jack44
@XRitrain: based on your opinion of blacks and gay culture i think youll love my book thats coming out soon because being black and bisexual i feel the same way about our community. As long as we run from homophobia it will continue to run rampant in our community
XRitrain
@Black Jack44: What is your book? I would not only love to read it but if it is appropriate, use it in integrating lectures where I gather gay and black folk together for gatherings, wine, food, and heartfelt talks. I feel to often black gay men get defensive toward the idea that black homophobia is bolted in our culture. But it’s not a derogatory statement. It is bolted in a part of our culture, not for all, but certainly a great majority and closing our eyes and sticking our fingers in our ears to it will not see progress. I don’t look at whites to come in my aunts house and educate her on gay rights, that’s my job, and I wish fellow black gays would do their role and take their responsibility of educate our own seriously. For our own rights. Our people have been denied enough rights in the past for black gay brothers and sisters to be denied more rights for another aspect of themselves today.
PogosWorld
BlackJack : Highest-grossing never equates to “greatest.” Look at the highest-grossing films ever. 9 out of 10 of them are from after the year 2000. Doesn’t mean those films are the greatest or will be remembered 10 years down the road. The film industry, like the music industry, is marketed internationally like never before and alsso costs more to the consumer than ever before. That’s why they gross so much now. It still doesn’t make anyone like Jay Z. or Beyonce equal to Diana Ross and the Supremes or even someone like Little Richard.
Cislia
Lets be honest with ourselves. All these thug rappers would be in jail or selling drugs on the streets if this “rap” thing didn’t pan out. Truth hurts and that is the TRUTH. Anyone denying it is a sucker paying money to hear this worthless, mind crushing kunk labeled “music”
Kev C
Thanks IonMusic. Listen, gays get beaten up by blacks whether they use racist language or not. And on top of that, are called racist, whether they are or aren’t. Why should anyone play nice when they’re taken for a sucker?
Kyle M.
@Kev C: Kev C. I think what always intrigues me in the comments section is when a black person spews homophobia or hate or gay bashes, gay black commentators are so busy screaming racist at us that not once do they actually point out the agressor, instigator and offender in the story….the homophobe. The homophobe never gets called out by them, but commentators reaction and defense is what is most disturbing to them. And yes, I’ve seen white homophobes called white trash, trailer trash, hick, and not a single soul screams foul in that case but when the homophobe is black we can’t eevn so much call them out with out being labeled racist, which the word has lost it’s power as a result really.
