Ed Droste Profiting Handsomely From Pushing Dreams of a Lottery Windfall

[flv:http://www.queerty.com/wp/docs/2010/04/washlottery.mp4 http://www.queerty.com/wp/docs/2010/04/grizlott00.jpg 650 400]

We hesitate to say Grizzly Bear, headed by gay frontman Ed Droste, is “selling out.” Because really, what is it to be a music act these days without making bank? So between the new ad, above (via EW, for Washington State’s lottery — with Droste delivering a brand new song, and Grizzly’s prior music video collaborator Patrick Daughters directing — and the Super Bowl ad, below, for Volkswagon, it’s clear these four boys are cleaning up.

By promoting unrealistic dreams that spending a dollar on a piece of paper will lead to riches, and by pushing a product that is destroying the habitats and food supply of grizzly bears.

Like he needs more money; supposedly he’s an heir to the Forbes magazine empire. How indie is that?

First of all this post is misinformed, poorly written and plain stupid.

Can someone explain the following? How is the lottery “pushing a product that is destroying the habitats and food supply of grizzly bears.”? Is it because it’s a paper product? So basically we should be upset at all toilet paper, notebooks, books in general….right?

How does this effect an actual Grizzly Bear in the wilderness? I fail to follow.
You realize the director did their video right? And they are friends…
So in theory we should be outraged at the directed and choreographer, as well as all the actors in the piece too…?
Everyone involved is to blame for this horrible threat to “food supply of grizzly bears”….right?

How is it this sets off your radar, yet Mika hawking Coke is all good? All this shit is a business—most people download albums and bands on the scale of grizzly bear (rather small) don’t make peanuts compared to the giants, and frankly probably made less than the director and choreographer.

This post is beyond dumb. At least he has the balls to be openly out instead of skirting around the issue like Mika.

ps. @Daniel, there are many people in the world that share last names.

@Felix: Duh, it’s just his music.

@ninja: “Can someone explain the following? How is the lottery “pushing a product that is destroying the habitats and food supply of grizzly bears.”? Is it because it’s a paper product? So basically we should be upset at all toilet paper, notebooks, books in general….right?” No. They are talking about the Volkswagon commercials (which use oil, which destroys the Arctic).

Also, I think you guys sometimes forget that Queerty writes with sarcasm a lot of the time, but you take them so seriously you think they aren’t saying things with a tongue in cheek. How sad for you.
