Marc Jacobs + Lorenzo Martone Get Married (Or Not?) In St. Bart’s

Congratulations to Marc Jacobs and Lorenzo Martone, who just got married in a private ceremony on St. Barts, where they’ve been spotted parading on the beach, after getting engaged in March. And of course Mr. Jacobs was shirtless on his wedding cake.

Sure, Russell Simmons was there, but what about the fashion gliteratti? We need details people! Was Anna hiding in the corner? Was Madonna inserting herself into all the wedding photos? Was Lindsay Lohan drinking … water? Did Jason Preston crash?!

UPDATE: Jacobs’ rep says there was no wedding, just a party.

A “Mazel Tov” is in order, as well as a better looking wedding cake!
Question: where outside of St “Barts” will this union be recognised?

Before I run out to purchase some fashionable narrow clip-on suspenders, should I wear them the same way Lorenzo is wearing his? Would that cause too much pressure on my left ball?

Congratulations are in order for Marc and Lorenzo. I’m sure my invitation got lost in the Holiday mail.

Nothing on this outside the gossip blogs that I’m finding, and at least one of them is reporting that this was an “engagement party” rather than a “wedding”.

Question: where outside of St “Barts” will this union be recognised?

St. Bart’s is an overseas collectivity of France. Same-sex marriage is not legal in France. France has the pacte civil de solidarité or PACS, a form of registered civil union, although not all of the collectivities of France began performing them after France approved them in 1999. Assuming that PACS are available in St. Barts and the couple entered into one, it would be recognized in France, those French collectivities which recognize and perform them, and any foreign jurisdiction that chooses to recognize them. PACS are significantly less comprehensive than civil marriage in terms of rights. Same-sex marriages outside France are not legally recognized, but a couple in 2008 was able to have their status as a couple recognized under French law for tax purposes.

@FakeName: merci pour les renseignements! Looks like St Bart’s is now struck off the list of places to hold my wedding—Sweden is looking better every day!

@TerrW: The uniball only looks good with the M Jacobs unitard from the upcoming S/S 2010 unisex Collection ;-p
