You’ve been sitting around wondering whether Nick Jonas thinks he’s been exploiting his gay fanbase. Well, you can rest easy — because he doesn’t.
Talking to Billboard, Jonas says those accusations that he’s stringing along gay men is totally unfair.

“Think about my past and where my love for performance comes from — musical theater,” he says. “And playing this gay fighter in a very macho world for Kingdom, it requires me digging really deep, and I do it with respect and honor.”
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
As for the backlash he faced after speaking at New York’s Orlando vigil, he has no regrets whatsoever.

“I wouldn’t change a thing,” he says. “That’s a moment — and in general the time we’re in in this country — where unity, support and raising our hand and saying we can make change is what’s important, so it’s a shame when people make it about something else.”
You cannot break him, Internet.

Not all gay men are into musical theater Nick, but I will let that common misconception pass.
I don’t feel baited at all. It is nice that more male heterosexual entertainers are embracing and acknowledging their gay fans. That is a huge step forward. I guess some won’t be happy until he is in their beds.
drelocks15
Please. Ain’t nobody trying to break this kid, but I don’t think he actually knows what “Gay baiting” means. Playing a gay character is not baiting. Saying that your gay character will have sex scenes and nudity in your up coming TV show when you know there won’t be is baiting. Being evasive when asked about your sexuality so as not to isolate gay dollars is also gay baiting.
I like the kid, though. Good luck to him.
crowebobby
I don’t think he was insinuation all gay men are into musical theater. He was saying that because he worked in musical theater he would naturally have had a lot of close contact with those gay men who are in musical theater and would have formed friendly relationships with them, which is certainly true.

Well, in my humble opinion. Nick has proven himself to be an ally in some shape or form. I will never understand this “gay community” everyone keeps talking about. Hope do we hope to gain more support and acceptance when we can’t even get along with each other or for that matter shade those who are making efforts to bring about change.
Too much hate going on. We have to start shoeing more love for each other or we are no more better then those who wish to bring us harm.
DDstar1me
Sh*t! lol..got me so upset. Now the grammar nazis are coming for me.

If he’d just come out…
glennmcbride
He is an ally of the LGBTQ community. I think that he should be accepted and appreciated for what he is and what he has done. We need more allies like him.
Dave084
Some people are just fucking ridiculous. “Gay baiting”? What does that even mean? Besides, he can bait me any way he wants to. There is such a thing as being deluxe dicks and pushing away supporters. It seems to me that some people put celebrities in a catch 22. If you overtly embrace or fraternize with gays then you’re gay baiting. If they ignore us then they’re homophobes. Get the hell over it.
omacdonald
I would consider Jonas a gay ally. Just because he supports us doen’t mean he’s a closet case. I think he is straight and I do not believe that disqualifies him from taking up our causes. Gay baiting sounds like such a stupid term. The guy supplies some nice eye candy in his videos. So what? If a gay thinks he’s being gay-exploited there is always an off button. I’d rather we have an ally than having someone outright hostile to our community. Give him a break. Seriously, we have Matt Bomer doing stripper movies for the ladies. Does that mean he is “straight baiting”? Those SJWs need to get over themselves. If they don’t like it, turn it off.

Good for him. He didn’t deserve that backlash. He’s a strong and solid ally and if people don’t want to believe that, that’s their problem.
martinbakman
Old gays forget that millenials have a realistic world view about us. Being gay is not a big deal compared to the stigma that used to cloud our thinking.
Marketing to us is the way business works today.
Taking on gay roles such as Kingdom is his career choice. He’s pretty good on that show, so good for him. He’s been in live theater and around gays a long time. He’s hip to the qweenz.
Gay baiting???? He doesn’t fit that. Seems unfair to accuse him.

@glennmcbride: Hear, hear!. Enough with this nonsense. He’s being positive and constructive and is a nice, smart man. This is just pettiness that I wish would just be dropped.I hope Queerty will dismiss these silly people as ‘bitchy’ & so on..

Gay men LOOOOOOOOOOVE straight men! They lick their a–holes!
Sluggo2007
@Baba Booey Fafa Fooey: I don’t lick anybody’s asshole, but straight men are fun, I have to admit.
Dave Downunder
@Baba Booey Fafa Fooey: & @Sluggo2007: Why the obsession with straight men? What makes them better than gay men? It’s a very negative self image you guys are buying into through glorifying straight guys.
PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID
No, the reason gay men like straight men is .. *wait for it* …because they like men! And owing to the fact that gay men make up a tiny minority, their very first sexual attraction cues would’ve been formed on the nearest appropriate desire object i.e. straight man and *trigger warning*’ one that is much, much more likely to have been a standard issue fairly masculine one too. The horror!!! Human Nature is “problematic” like that.
Baba Booey Fafa Fooey
@Dave Downunder: I’m making fun of them.
Gay men looooooooooove straight male crusty a–hole!

Consider me gay-baited and happy about it.

What’s all the fuss about? If he is bait, I am biting.

Nick Jonas turned down a cool $2 million dollars to perform at the Republican National Convention. That’s $2 million dollars. So the next time some miserable queen tries to say Nick isn’t a genuine ally of the gay community, please tell them to f*ck off.
Baba Booey Fafa Fooey
We looooooooooove the straight man. Miserrrrable quuuuueeeeeeeennnns loooooooooooooove the straight man.
I love that song.
SonOfKings
I can’t stand him. I don’t think his “love” of the gay community is sincere. Just a strategy to build his career. When he approved a “no black models” policy for his latest tour videos because he personally does not find black women attractive, I was through with him. Trust down the drain, case closed. NEXT!
SonOfKings
@martinbakman Millennials are calculating for sure, but I wouldn’t call them “realistic” with regard to us because they often overlook the importance of relationships and legacy. Basically, I just don’t trust them.

I am glad for our allies – and I am glad for Nick Jonas, yet again many of those here prove themselves to be bitter and damaged. I’m sorry.
