PHOTOS: There’s a Reason Bruno Is Wearing a Jock

It’s only appropriate that a fashion reporter such as Bruno would appear in a magazine’s fashion spread. But he’s not here just to don designer labels, but also to comment on them. Asks GQ, “Dear Brüno, if forced to choose: Dolce or Gabbana?” The answer’s so obvi: “Gabbana. Dolce is bald, so zere’s no hair to grab hold of.” (Photos: Mark Seliger/GQ)

    He’s just EXCORIATING those homophobes…lol, yeah…some people would defend their own execution.

  • ChicagoJimmy

    Yawn. Did someone say something funny?

  • anyway

    It’s satire, peeps. You’re not obligated to find it funny (ie, ChicagoJimmy), but I do.

  • AlwaysGay

    If SBC really had balls, his next movie would be called “Hymie”, about Hymie, a greedy Jewish banker, who along with his big hooked nose, curly hair and constant use of “Oy vey”, kvetches his way through life, plotting to steal Christian babies and install a Jewish run world government, avoiding anything physical because we all know that Jews can’t play sports. Now *that* would be ballsy.

    Yeah, hell’d freeze over before he’d do something like that, easier to do that boring routine with The Gays.

  • TANK

    @AlwaysGay:

    He doesn’t have balls, though. There’s nothing daring or pushing the envelope about this tripe. It’s the same old song and dance. It’s acceptable to make fun of faggots, ergo, he makes fun of them. He wouldn’t dare do that about hymie (being a jew himself), or a black person…or any of the unacceptable bigotries…it wouldn’t make money. Everyone likes to laugh at a faggot, including many gays.

  • TANK

    At least sarah silverman gets it.

    I for one, want to see Bruno.
    After all, it’s not the first time that an “actor” plays a roll that is far different than they are

    how about:

    Dustin Huffman in “Tootsie” or Robin Williams in “Mrs Doubtfire”
    or the Wayans brothers in “White Chicks” or Robert Downey Jr. in “Tropic Thunder” of virtually all straight actors who have played a homosexual character from tv shows such as “Queer as Folk” to movies such as “Too Wong Fu”

    If we are only going to tolerate actors playing roles for which they are more like they are in real life then gay actors will have to deal with ONLY accepting gay roles.

    say goodbye to Neil Patrick Harris’s career.

    Regarding Cohen not having the “balls” to do the same thing about Jews…wow, you guys have short memories.

    Do you not remember him getting his redneck audience to enthusiastically sing “Throw The Jew Down The Well” with him (as Borat)? Or how, in the same movie, he had Borat say some horrible things about Jews in order to get the audience to admit their own anti-semitism?

    I, for one, will be at Bruno opening weekend. Maybe I’ll go twice, just to make up for the rest of you.

  • diago

    Yes, I guess the people talking about “Hymie” have not seen Borat.

  • AlwaysGay

    @unclemike: Cohen’s characters are the joke, you are to laugh at Borat and Bruno. Cohen put anti-semitism on the same level as racism and sexism in Borat so even those people unaware of anti-semitism would know it is wrong. Heterosexuals will be laughing at Bruno and will feel he validates all their prejudices.

  • TANK

    @diago:

    I saw borat. And Sacha wouldn’t do Hymie. It’s just not a fashionable prejudice.

  • TANK

    If you think making a punchline out of the antisemitism of kazaksthanis and americans is the same as making a punchline out of gays, you’re pretty fucked up.

  • Fitz

    Given the kind of violence that Gays see from bashers, and how this crap, imo, is part of the problem.. I STILL think it would be a hilarious performance piece to take Sasha’s face while his wife being killed. haa haa. I just peed a little. That is funny.

  • TANK

    ANd if sacha were to do a hymie character as mercilessly and lovelessly as he’s doing bruno, relentlessly slamming jews…I wouldn’t feel as bad about it, because sacha would be standing right next to me in the cars to auschwitz.

  • unclemike

    @AlwaysGay: Sorry, AG, but that’s a very superficial reading of his comedy. Some people might laugh at the characters as presented, and you can’t help that. The real comedy (and I think what most people are reacting to/laughing at) is in watching unsuspecting peoples’ uncomfortable reactions to the character(s) he portrays. And therein lies a very profound statement about humans interacting with strangers.

    Gays are not the punchline, Tank. They’re not even the target. Society’s barely-contained homophobia is the target. And the punchlines are the stupid people saying stupid gay-hating shit on the record with the slightest of provocations.

    Too, and also: I prefer to wait until after I see the finished product before I proclaim what a horrible thing it is.

    @AlwaysGay: you said…

    “If SBC really had balls, his next movie would be called “Hymie”, about Hymie, a greedy Jewish banker, who along with his big hooked nose, curly hair and constant use of “Oy vey”, kvetches his way through life, plotting to steal Christian babies and install a Jewish run world government, avoiding anything physical because we all know that Jews can’t play sports. That was about half the plot of the movie “Borat”.

  • TANK

    Gays are not the punchline, Tank

    Of course not. Those pictures in this entry aren’t…in any was indicative of the movie itself or meant to provoke laughter at gays because they’re gay. Those pictures aren’t making fun of gays at all…and the trailer…as I said, some people would defend their own execution.

    No, borat wasn’t a “hymie” character nor was the humor at the expense of jews. There were a few jokes about the antisemitism of americans and kazakhstanis…

  • HellsKitchen

    Funny.
