San Diego Mayor Supports Gay Nups After Daughter Comes Out

mayor280.jpg
San Diego mayor Jerry Sanders originally planned on vetoing the city council’s gay nup push, but has had a sudden turn around. What changed? His daughter came out.

A tearful Mayor Jerry Sanders made a dramatic shift yesterday, explaining that he can no longer oppose same-sex marriages because he does not want to deny justice to people like his daughter, who is a lesbian.

In the time since, he said he realized he could not accept “the concept of a separate-but-equal institution.” Because of that, he continued, he was unwilling to send the message to anyone that “they were less important, less worthy or less deserving of the rights and responsibilities of marriage.”

If only all Republicans could grow gay loving hearts.

so the take-away is that he wouldn’t give a shit about this issue unless it hit close to home? and we’re applauding that?

He’s still a conservative douchebag only concerned about his own narrow experiences (i.e., the hallmark of social/fiscal conservatism) and those of his entitled family/friends.

Thanks, Jerry. Sort of.
