The headline says it all!

Last week we published three conversations with three of Barack Obama's gay advocates, including business man and former HRC board member Stampp Corbin. The following ENDA-related excerpt didn't make it because - well, it wasn't pertinent at the time.

In light of this weekend's HRC protest and the larger political context, we'd like to share Corbin's ideas on the tensions between grassroots and institutionalized activism.

It's definitely worth a read - for those of you who get off on DC's back rooms, at least.

Will GOP Learn An Evolutionary Lesson?

gopbones.jpg
The Republicans' actions and words at this weekend's Values Voter Summit prove one thing: the party simply refuses to evolve. Editor Andrew Belonsky explains why the Grand Old Party needs to embrace change, look beyond the walls of social conservatism and expand its definition of family values.

One day after Broward County Tourism Commission booted Jim Naugle from their roster, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has come out against the homophobic Fort Lauderdale mayor. Via South Florida's CBS affiliate:

Add the NAACP to the list of groups who have come out against Fort Lauderdale Mayor Jim Naugle for his anti-gay remarks.

Local leaders with the civil rights organization said Wednesday the mayors comments against the citys gay community are a form of hate and discrimination.

Awesome, NAACP! We have one question: what took so long?

• It took George Clooney 29-years to get a star on the Hollywood walk of fame. The Harry Potter kids, Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe and the absolutely stunning Emma Watson? Six years. That's gotta sting.

• Ugandan gay activists demand that anti-gay Ethics and Integrity Minister James Nsaba Buturo turn over his "death threats". Or else…

• The Anglican soap opera continues. The General Synod has backed a "covenant" dedicated to wrangling in gays and their liberal allies. Openly gay Bishop Gene Robinson may soon be an endangered species.

We must have fallen through a warp into the Bizarro dimension or something. We're stunned that the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People handed Grey's Anatomy actor and TR Knight faggot caller Isaiah Washington the Best Actor in a Television Drama at their Image Awards over the weekend. Perhaps they're not that concerned about his scandalous past. Or maybe he's that good of an actor. Or, more likely, the competition just really, really sucked.

Of course, the organization's got bigger problems: leader Bruce Gordon stepped down after a measly 19-months in charge. Apparently he didn't see eye-to-eye with the board.

If you're interested, sappho-journo Jasmyne Cannick's got the video of Washington's speech. Not coincidentally, he thanks her. Cannick defended him during the whole faggot scandal. We don't get mentioned. He must have forgotten.

• "Abstinence only" could soon be the law of the land in Kansas. We are excited about this new law because it might mean that all the homophobic jerks in that state will not know how to reproduce if and when the time comes. [KAKE]

• " 'Brooming' was the name given for the practice of poking a camper, while clothed, in the area of the butt," says future teacher (and son of an Arizona state senator) Clifton Bennett, who is facing charges that he assaulted young boys with a broom handle. Why didn't these sorts of things happen when we went to summer camp? [Pink News]
