This Pro-Gay Weather Ad Is Ripe for NOM to Parody

Gay marriage opponents aren't the only ones who can use atmospheric imagery and weather patterns to push their agenda in Iowa! This new spot from pro-marriage equality group One Iowa, which claims to be the "the state's largest LGBT advocacy organization," steals Maggie Gallagher's clouds … and puts them in a blue sky, not the center of a hurricane. Sorry: Storm.

With this, we challenge you, National Organization for Marriage, to remix, parody, and point out the "lies" in this ad.

I thought it was well worded, well done, and should "play in Iowa"… only criticism is really the announcer's voice is kind of "ominous"/authoritarian…like something the fundies would choose…would have enjoyed perhaps a few different narrators, showing some diversity, including a female voice.

@Dennis: Ads and messages that we as LBGT or pro-gay folks respond to are much different than the ads and messages that anti- folks respond to.

One of the least successful ad campaigns was in California where they focused on portraying LBGT couples as diverse and normal. One of the most successful campaigns was in Arizona, where they focused on old heterosexual people and emphasized that the ballot would remove the rights of retired cohabiting heterosexual people.

We like diverse—I'm not so sure if the opposition does.

@ChristopherJ:

I guess where I was going with the call for more diversity was a desire to show that (in addition to widespread opposition) there was also broadbased, diverse support for fairness in Iowa. I feel that in addition to the older male/authoritarian narration, a woman's voice, a younger voice, etc. (with each reading a few sentences) could have conveyed a message that not everyone in Iowa is an old farmer or male judge, and matched the "many different people came here to find their freedom" theme that the add began with…

I still say the ad is well done overall…
