Hmmm, I’m really conflicted here. This being Queerty I know I’m supposed to be a holier-than-thou shithead in the comment section. But do I rip him apart for being transgender or for his irresponsibility for not using condoms and catching HIV? Or should I just go right to calling him a bareback whore?

@Bromancer7: You don’t need to ‘rip into’ anybody for being HIV positive. Attitudes like that only spread the very stigma that this artist is attempting to address. The more people feel there is a climate where HIV can be openly discussed, the more easily the disease can be prevented through the wider uptake of HIV testing and interventions like PrEP.

I keep telling myself ONE DAY Big Freedia will appear on this page instead of excess baggage such as this. I mean really, how much more demeaning could this article have come off. If the kid has done world tours then there HAS to be something about him other than HIV that could have been reported on. His music and rap style perhaps? Along with a more uplifting picture wearing a shirt (damn the poor black queen with HIV transgender who will run out of Walgreens with as much makeup stuffed in their also stolen purse b/s, which is ALL this picture translates).
