Vatican Refuses To Let AT&T And Verizon Corner The Market On Confessionals

Though the U.S. Catholic Church never intended its iPhone app Confession to be used in place of actual in-person confessions (the app actually tells users they must consult with a priest to be formally absolved on their sins), the Vatican is furious its American offshoot would even suggest as much. “It is essential to understand that the rites of penance require a personal dialogue between penitents and their confessor,” says Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi. ” It cannot be replaced by a computer application. I must stress to avoid all ambiguity, under no circumstance is it possible to ‘confess’ by iPhone.” Fine. How about by Droid?
