Musclebound matrimony

Arnold Schwarzenegger is the meat (beef?) in this gay wedding sandwich

Arnold Schwarzenegger hasn’t always publicly supported gay marriage, but you’d never know it by glancing at the body-builder-turned-movie-star-turned-politician’s Instagram feed.

In his latest post, the former California governor shared a sweet photo celebrating the marriage of bodybuilder Rob Kearney and his now-husband, Joey Aleixo.

Schwarzenegger stands between the two grooms, an arm around each, as all three grin from ear to ear:

“I think this is a first: winning the @arnoldsports Strongman and getting married in the same weekend,” wrote Schwarzenegger. “Congratulations guys. I was honored to celebrate with you.”

Schwarzenegger has long supported LGBTQ causes but like many allies, his endorsement of same-sex marriage was the result of personal evolution.

We don’t bring this up to knock him, but merely to share our absolute favorite argument ever made against gay marriage, which Schwarzenegger supplied by way of an interview gaffe after announcing his candidacy for governor of California in 2003.

Speaking to Sean Hannity, he said:

“I think that gay marriage is something that should be between a man and a woman.”

That’s deep.

But back to the strongman and his new hubby: Kearney and Aleixo tied the knot in Australia over the weekend, just a few days after Kearney nabbed the top prize at the Arnold Australia Pro Strongman festival.

After the ceremony, Kearney shared a pic of the couple at Half Moon Bay Beach.

“To call this man my husband is a dream come true and he is and always will be my soulmate.,” he wrote. “I am so excited to start this new journey as a married couple and my heart has never been so full of love.”

Congrats!
