“I’ve never been as distraught as I was at the Vanity Fair party after the Oscars. I mean, did you see the show? It’s not the kind of thing where you go running off with pom-poms. Something had changed. I wasn’t sure what that thing was. I wasn’t sure that thing was mine or who it belonged to because of how everything happened. And it made 2017 a very long year. … And I’m never going to get the opportunity to enjoy that–because even if it happens again, it won’t be the same. Moonlight was a very special film for me.”–Barry Jenkins speaking to Vulture about that time the Oscars accidentally awarded “La La Land” Best Picture instead of “Moonlight”

This was a real debacle that took the shine off Moonlight. I wouldn’t be surprised if homophobic people exist in the Academy.

‘I thought I hadn’t won the most prestigious award in my field, then ONE MINUTE LATER it turned out I actually had won it, but my whole year was still ruined.’ I would call this a first-world problem, but that doesn’t even begin to cover it.

It is beyond ridiculous.

That Oscars debacle was really bizarre. None of the explanations given make sense. But people have continued to go see Moonlight around the globe, it has earned $65 million (after costing just $1 million to make), and it’s a landmark film, so Barry Jenkins and his cast and crew should feel very proud about the masterpiece they produced.
I’m looking forward to his next film. He’s such a talented director.
I’m also glad that Queerty has featured some positive posts that at remind us it’s Black History Month.

How does the explanation not make sense?

I like this guy. I haven’t seen moonlight just clips and I cry so much from them. I’m glad he won the Oscar. We’ll deserved. And again sir congratulations.

You have to see it, draven. It’s such a beautiful, powerful, sad movie.

I don’t know which was worse, this or Steve Harvey announcing the wrong Miss Universe winner.
Inspector 57
Steve Harvey was worse.
Faye and Warren made an honest mistake because they were handed the wrong card.
Harvey f****d up because he had skipped all the rehearsals and couldn’t read the card correctly. A complete egocentric dick.

Despite it all, nothing should detract or take away from Barry Jenkins’ brilliant artistic masterpiece….of which far exceeds this year’s fluff, ‘Call Me By Your Name’ nominee.
heckles202
At least Call Me By Your Name exhibited passion and intimacy between men. Moonlight played it way safe in order to not discomfit straight audiences!

Amen, heckles202!
